Album Notes
Ākāśavāni (Kathy Bolte and Christie Smirl) lead kīrtan (sacred chanting) in the U.S. and India. They each have recorded two individual albums. This is their first collaboration. Their music is said to be soul-stirring, and is offered with passion and reverence.

Ākāśavāni: Sounds from the Heavens began when Kathy Bolte spent the springtime of 2016 and 2017 in India studying Sanskrit and Vedic Mantras and meditating on the banks of the sacred Ganges River. As the river flowed, the grace of inspiration flowed as well, and these compositions began to take shape. Kathy brought this body of work back to her musical partner, Christie Smirl, who added her voice to the mix. Together, over the course of a year, they polished the work like a precious stone.

Kathy plays guitar and harmonium on the album and Christie plays harmonium. Their unique voices complement one another and at times offer sweetness, at other times express power.

They are joined by some extraordinary musicians – Eddie Young on Cello, Bass Guitar, and Udu, Nick Young on Sitar, and Christo Pellani on Percussion.

In addition to her passion for music, Kathy Bolte is a Yogasana (physical yoga) and Nada Yoga (Yoga of Sound) teacher. She is certified in teaching Sanskrit, Vedic Mantras and other sound based practices. She has been facilitating Women’s Wisdom Circles for 18 years and is skilled at storytelling.

Christie Smirl is a Nurse Practitioner, Doctor of Ayurvedic Medicine, Reiki Master and facilitator of healing circles. She is a natural healer and spiritual visionary. She teaches Yoga Teacher Trainings centered around Ayurvedic practices. She leads weekly healing circles and sound practices at her home.
