What is Guided Imagery?

Perhaps the best definition is “a heighten state of awareness” that focuses your imagination through imagery. Guided imagery is a type of self-hypnosis. This is a natural state that we pass into and out of many times a day. We enter a trance state when we daydream, meditate or simply spend some time “lost in thought.”

All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. The success you achieve in using this CD results from taping into your subconscious mind, which leads to changes in your behavioral and emotional response. There is no way to “do” this guided imagery wrong. Simply allow yourself to follow the words, as you did when you were a child having a story told to you. It’s just that simple. You will pretend and imagine. Some of you may “see” images in some fashion, some of you may “hear” sounds, and others may have a “feeling.” Or you may simply experience a “knowing” as you follow along. Any way you experience this session, is perfect.

How Do You Know If It’s Working?

Usually you will experience a deep level of relaxation with an equally heightened state of awareness. You will focus on the images described, just as you do when you are engrossed in watching a movie or reading a good book.

How to Use This CD

In order to achieve the best success with guided imagery refrain from taking any stimulants for at least several hours prior to beginning your session. Starting this CD after a large meal or before bedtime may also lead to sleep rather than a trance state. The best time for a session is when you are awake and relatively alert. Find yourself a quiet and comfortable place to relax. A lounge chair or recliner is best, although a couch or chair with an ottoman will also work. Try to avoid listening to the session while lying down. Be sure to have a light blanket to wrap over yourself if needed. Turn off any telephones, remove your pets and allow yourself a moment of uninterrupted quiet. Enjoy!
