Album Notes
Kat Mills stands deeply rooted in Generation X—reaching back to beloved 1960s and 70s troubadours for fuel, and seeking through song and story to openly grapple with the 21st century. Kat is a wife, mother, volunteer, and activist based in Blacksburg VA, and touring as a solo artist throughout the east.

Her fourth studio album, SILVER, is a collection of 10 new original songs that reflect the many sides of Kat Mills. You will find tastes of pop, soul, r&b and folk here, and Kat is the thread running through. With an alto voice that only seems to get richer, and a band featuring David Spinozza, Zachary Alford, Scott Petito, Clifford Carter, Marc Shulman and Rachel Handman, Kat gives us layers to peel away upon repeated listenings.

Kat has played FloydFest, The Takoma Park Folk Festival, Clearwater’s Hudson River Revival, and was recently a finalist in the LEAF/NewSong Singer Songwriter Competition at the Lake Eden Arts Festival. She has shared stages with Pete Seeger, Levon Helm, Dar Williams and Sarah Lee Guthrie.

“To craft original, transcendent stories and songs, make collaborative, impeccable recordings, and perform for attentive, participant audiences—exhibiting strength, self-knowledge and optimism.”

Kat was inspired to pen this vision statement as part of her work with The Creative Tribe: a small group of women dedicated to developing independent artistic ventures into lives of purpose. After several years of putting music on the back burner to raise her beloved daughter, Kat Mills is back at it with a new drive. She is equally at home at an intimate house concert and on a festival stage, finding the contemporary voice for a familiar folk vibe. Humans have always been compelled to gather around the fire for stories and songs. In today’s world, more than ever, we need troubadours to take us there. Kat Mills invites you to relax, pay attention and play a part in the narrative that brings peace and dignity to a troubled world.

Songs Woven By a Master
Kat's songs sound more woven than crafted. Tales well told, well arranged and augmented by a band of crack instrumentalists that offer just enough accompaniment to support the singer and her story without distracting the listener from it's message. The whole delivery is warm and inviting and lures the listener in while delivering songs of depth and beauty.
