Album Notes
Singer/songwriter Keeley West grew up in a family of artists;painters, singers, and musicians, and she lived and traveled throughout Europe as the youngest daughter of a US Coast Guard Captain stationed in Italy. As a pre-teen, she'd aspire to join her glamorous 16 year old sister Jacque, who attracted fellow musicians with "Hootenanny" parties and filled their home with laughter and 1960's era Italian and American songs. Clutching her first guitar, a steel string Echo, an inspired 12 -year old Keeley was urged to enter a talent contest at the Officer's Club in Naples, where Jacque won first place and Keeley took second. This was a revelation to her, since her high lilting voice and sad love song "Green Grow The Lilacs" won over a bevy of teenage rock bands and more sophisticated singers. As the family moved about Europe, traveling to France, Spain, and Switzerland, and with no television in their home, Keeley amused herself for long periods of time, singing, playing guitar, and writing lyrics; the songs covered many topics, the joy of travel, mixed with her adolescent feelings about life and love.

A musical thread has foliowed Keeley throughout her life and as a teenager she played guitar and sang wherever a venue was church services, weddings, teenage parties, coffee houses, open mic nights, and college concerts. At Washington College, she sang in a traveling chorus and joined a musical children's theater troupe. At Frostburg State University, she performed in coffee houses, the local Democrat Club, and local restaurants. When she earned her Master's degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, she wrote her thesis about Cajun women musicians in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana and performed Cajun songs on campus at a French Cultural Festival. She has performed solo and collaborates with fellow musicians at coffee houses in Annapolis, Maryland. She wrote the "Severn River song" to honor the small town she calls home today.

Currently a middle school French teacher, Keeley uses her musical talents to provide her students with a fun way to learn their lessons using French songs and dances. It is her hope that you walk away singing or humming a tune from "Phases of Love" and be inspired to follow your own dreams.
