ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Hard Working Man Blues

New CD from
Keith Hall and Pat Dow Blues Band

‘Hard Working Man Blues’ marks a decided return by the Keith Hall and Pat Dow Band to a raw, stripped back blues sound. Opening track Red Heels is New Orleans funk with classic blues slide guitar. The Best I Ever Had Chicago blues with harp. While Down To The River is a Mavis Staple inspired gospel swamp funk. Title track, Hard Working Man Blues and the rural themed Big Sky add a piquant of country blues to the album, tracks Cruel Night, Hells Gonna Get My Bones and Hallelujah Wind move through a gamut of blues references, from John Lee Hooker dark and brooding to eclectic Hendrix/Cream like ‘wah’ funk high. Once again Hall and Dow provide an album of eleven interesting and lovingly crafted original tracks. Building yet again on their panache for memorable melodic themes, this album is a fine selection of definitive blues.

With their last two original albums, ‘Blues Hall’ (2013) and ‘A Love Divine’ (2014) making it quickly to no.2 in the Australian Blues and Roots Airplay Chart, the Keith Hall and Pat Dow Blues Band continue to stamp a solid mark on the Australian blues music scene.
Currently touring their latest album, Hall and Dow contribute a unique and distinctive style and sound, developed over more than thirty years of solid work in NSW and around Australia. While they draw on inspirations including John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy and Ray Charles and the British Blues scene, their original sound and song writing traverses the traditional blues base to a unique blend of blues, soul and roots sounds and themes.
Pat Dow’s ‘searing electric blues’ guitar combined with Keith Hall’s power vocals ensure a rich, earthy and melodic journey. Make no mistake about it though, these guys are a ‘get up and dance’ band.

A distinct ability to diversify sets these guys apart, being able to move seamlessly from a full band feel (replete with keyboards and sax) to a bare, stripped back acoustic duo. Hall and Dow have one of those all too rare, lasting collaborations built on an inherent trust to travel musically as one.
