Album Notes
Life is Grand is Keith Secola’s highly anticipated sixth album. The seventeen track album features an all new Punk version of the cult classic NDN Kars and is a mash up of the generations with Secola’s son Keith on drums, his son’s friend Joey Dougherty on guitar and vocals, and his long time band member James Vickers on bass. Other tracks include: Say Your Name a song seasoned with the haunting sound of the Native flute and dedicated to the survivors of Indian Residential/Boarding School, the hard-hitting cultural and historical commentary Open the Door—a live show fan-favourite, and King by Now a melody that oozes raw with longing. A member of the Native Music Hall of Fame, Secola has been dubbed as the Native versions of both Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen, and is known in many circles as one of North America’s most eclectic musicians. He delivers yet again with a new level of artistic mastery, balancing heavy electric rock chords (Underground Overdose) with meticulously woven acoustic dreams (International Dateline and Humbelina). Life is Grand picks up where songs like Kokopeli Blues and Old Trader left off on his previous album Native Americana, with a mature element of reflection (World’s Strongest Man and Nowhere Fast) and a determined vein of rejuvenation (4 Those to Come and Little Bird). As a special treat for hard core Secola fans, the album also includes a few sample tracks from his upcoming and long awaited rock opera Seeds. Built on a solid foundation of the straight up good stuff that makes Rock classic, illuminated by a traditional Native American perspective, and full of innovative and surprising tricks and turns, Life is Grand offers listeners a diverse auditory experience at the hands of a true American grassroots treasure.
