ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Singer, songwriter, composer, arranger, pianist, flutist, daydreamer, and vivid-colour-loving songstress Kelly Robinson brings originality to the world of jazz. She chooses to set her own standard, writing and performing original jazz songs instead of cautiously singing the tried-and-true hits. Kelly has built up a sizable fan base locally, and has been praised by the media, achieving comparisons to Norah Jones, Diana Krall, and the music of Michael Bublé.

Her debut cd My Foolish Heart is a bold, creative, and emotional journey of the fiery romance and wild unpredictability of relationships. Nine of the eleven songs are written entirely by Kelly Robinson, a recent graduate of the University of Manitoba Faculty of Music in Canada with a major in Voice Performance and a minor in Composition.

Kelly's voice has a warmth and maturity beyond her years in its sexy whisper one minute and emotion-charged roar the next. With unending creativity, her melodies soar, maintaining the perfect balance of a catchy tune with a jazzy feel. Her lyrics are pointed, clever, and quirky, and mesh with rich, lush instrumentation to create a sultry, jazz style uniquely her own.

The album features talented Winnipeg jazz musicians Jonathan Alexiuk -piano, Chris Berti - Acoustic Bass, Josh Eskin - guitar, and Charles Murray - Drums and Percussion. Award-Winning Recording Engineer Howard Rissin and Kelly Robinson co-produced the record.

This much anticipated full-length album features her song My Arrival, which was included in Toronto's Rodna Films' Just Arrived which premiered in Canada and throughout Europe. As a result of the attention garnered by Kelly's music, Kelly was nominated for a 2005 Independent Music Award (Montclair, New Jersey). This honour created an international buzz for Kelly. Finalists ranged from the United States, Canada, England, France and Switzerland. We'll be hearing more from Ms. Robinson
"My Foolish Heart is the debut recording from jazz chanteuse Kelly Robinson. Not content to simply dip into the established jazz canon, Robinson wrote nine
of the eleven tracks on this disc. The results are commendable and Kelly should be proud of this disc. Robinson's voice is the focal point of My Foolish Heart, so the arrangements aren't terribly complex. Nevertheless, they serve as an adequate platform for the songstress to croon from--and croon she does. Kelly has a delicate voice that can be light and airy or sultry and seductive... the lyrics here show flashes of real promise, and Robinson's love of poetry will only aid her in future writing. We'll be hearing more from Ms. Robinson."

If you like Holly Cole, this is for you!
"Winnipeg torch singer Robinson does something almost unheard of for a brand-new vocal jazz artist by writing 9 of the eleven tracks on this debut. Paint-by-numbers arrangements will turn off the trad fans, but the playing is classy enough to attract anyone who likes Holly Cole to death." -- Bart Kives, Winnipeg Free Press
