Album Notes
Ken McGorry has worked with Richard and Greg Meade--known to the world as the Meade Bros. Band--on original songs since 1972. The boys rebooted as Ken McGorry and the Achievements in 1979 and played fab venues like the Lone Star Cafe in NYC and the newly reopened My Father's Place in Roslyn, NY. Often, the band opened for national touring acts, especially in the country rock vein. Kinky Friedman was a particular favorite to work with, but Ken and the band opened for many greats, from Livingston Taylor to Steppenwolf. The master plan was to get a major label deal. (And we almost did! Some minor labels, too.) Ken and the Achievements eventually started families, including babies. But the band kept recording with Paul Brokaw and Joe Refano at their Media Mechanix studio on Long Island. The result is what you have before you--the new album "Instant Gratification" is all newly recorded material, and two rerecorded from the 70s, but most written and produced in this here century. Ken and the Achievements play live again, including at the new My Father's Place. Look for info, pictures and news about the band on the Ken McGorry website. There you can also pick up on Ken's other pursuit--writing novels! Ken is the author of the "Ghost Hampton" series of cool, scary, weird fun! Band members include: Don Gabis, Bass; Bill Intemann, drums; Douglas Baldwin, guitars. Guest singers include: Shannon Rae on "Whenever You're Around" and Kate Corrigan on "You Got Me Goin' Again."
