Album Notes
Artist Information

Dinah D plays upright bass, guitar, mandolin, banjo, a bit-o-fiddle and really belts it out! She also makes many sound effects and plays kazoo like a mad-woman.

Tina Jones plays trumpet, flugelhorn, trombone, tuba, clarinet, piano, and sings her heart out! Yo, she's also known to bust a rhyme about dinosaurs and riding her bicycle. Word.

When they're joined by their friends on stage, you'll see Phil Wipper playing drums, Chad Geekie playing keyboards, Aaron Cadwalader playing guitar and Tracy Myers playing percussion.

It all started when Dinah D and Tina Jones were asked to fill a void in their community of Gabriola Island, BC, Canada: "We need music for our little tykes," they said. In fact, they wouldn't stop demanding it! So, together with the local Recreation Society, they started Melody Makers Musical Preschool. The popularity of this program grew and soon parents of older kids started demanding more hands-on music education for kids of all ages.

This led them to put their heads together, along with several other talented artists from Gabriola to come up with a huge community collaborative extravaganza called "D'Ants in Yer Pants!". With the support from Canada Council's Artists in Community Collaboration Fund, Dinah and Tina led the huge event, with workshopping taking place over several months and involving over 50 of Gabriola's youth, from ages 5 to 17. The show that resulted was a huge success and left the kids with a sense of accomplishment, now having the skills to pull off a GIANT show, complete with Shadow Puppet Show, Live Band and Kid's Choir. From performing on stage to learning stage management skills, the kids created it from conception to concert.

Still, the families on Gabriola and other communities wanted more. Demanded more! More quality entertainment for a family audience! More fun music to share with everyone, no matter what age!

They've already played some of Vancouver Island's finest festivals (Vancouver Island MusicFest 2006 in Courtenay, Ukee Days 2006 in Ucluelet, Islands Music Festival, Duncan BC, Harmony Arts Festival West Van 2007) and continue to be invited to more. Along with a number of appearances in small communities as special guests at preschool celebrations, family dances and private parties, The Kerplunks are proud to announce the release of their debut CD, "The Kerplunks!".

When they're not playing kid's music, both Dinah and Tina enjoy careers playing with their own groups.

Dinah D's swingband, the Contraband Swing Club, tours Vancouver Island and Lower Mainland music scene in support of her debut EP, "Outer Bass".

Fronting the Disco-Funk band Wunderbread for a decade, Tina now leads her own band, the Tina Jones Band. Her first album is still in the production stage.

"D'Ants in Yer Pants TOO!", taking place on Gabriola Island (Fall of 2007), is guaranteed to be a roaring success.

Some Kudos and Accolades:

"Tina and Dinah are both wonderful versatile additions to any festival program. As musicians, performers and most importantly fun human beings, I can't recommend them enough!"
~Doug Cox

"Wow! What a show! Our daughter was dancing for days after, it was all we could do to keep her from running away from home and starting her own band. And she's three! Seriously, you guys rocked, the Community Collaboration Extravaganza was a very positive show, can't wait to see you again soon! You guys rock the house. Way cool."
~Matt, Nicole & Tess

"What a fantastic experience my children and for that matter, the whole family had. I love the fact that the children were involved in every aspect of this production and truly felt like it was their show. The production was so much fun!"
~Tanya, Tim, Isaiah & Sadie

"We loved the way that music, movement and musical instruments were introduced to the children... remarkable, energetic!"

Infectious, Entertaining, Wonderful Kerplunks!
This is one of the most entertaining and adult-listenable kids' albums I've encountered! Very very high quality music and musicianship, with lots of interesting instruments. A great introduction for children to some different genres of music. Love it!!!

It's our favourite!!
The Kerplunks set a new, higher standard for children's music in Canada. The talent and experience of the muscians come through in every song. It's clever. It's catchy and having a child is really only an excuse to listen to it. We like it so much, we bought a copy for a friend and we see them live whenever we can. Yayyy!!! The Kerplunks!!!

Lisbie Rae

Can't get you out of my head, and I love it!

Every time it rains, I'm humming about gumboots. I think I love this CD even more than my grandson does, which is good because he wants it on all the time. There's absolutely NO condescension to hit the right age level. The music is fun and so sing-along-able

I'm so proud of The Kerplunks! They're Independent Music Award finalists for the children's song category.

The Kerplunks
I'm a friend of Tina's, so I expected to like the CD, but I was blown away by how good it was the first time I heard it. My son Oscar loves it, and thankfully so do I, considering how often he wants to hear it.

Carla Campesino

Oh Yeah
This si the best Kid's album I've ever heard- no goofy "Kiddie" stuff here- seriously.
Buy this album!

There is so much energy on this cd, and the catchy songs are built on everyday happenings, so we find ourselves singing about bananas and gumboots at the slightest provocation.
