Album Notes
KERYGMA's music was founded while ministering to the children of the Antiochian Village summer camp. Rick Michaels, Alan Shanbour and Patrick Kinder met there in the mid-1980's and found a shared vocation. Contemporary folk music in still not common to the traditions of the Eastern Orthodox Christian Church, which is why KERYGMA's music remains ground breaking to this day.
Originally KERYGMA sold their music in (gulp) cassette format. This recording is a complete digital reengineering of the original format of the first two projects of their original songs.
Now the members of KERYGMA are ordained clergy of the Orthodox Church: Bishop ANTHONY Michaels of Toledo, Fr. Michael Shanbour of Wenachee, WA, and Fr. Patrick Kinder of Madison, WI. They have not played together much since their ordinations but people have remembered and continue to request access to KERYGMA's music. Are reunion concerts in their future? Who knows. Each of them has had opportunity to sing for folks from time to time, and Bishop ANTHONY and Fr. Patrick have recently enjoyed opportunities to sing for the folks in their Midwest region. Whatever the case, they are grateful for the continued enjoyment and request for their music, and have made the effort to make this music available again.
