Album Notes
Nothing Works is a collection of original rock songs by the renowned Irish artist Kevin ISM. The original album was released in 2014 and this is a re-mastered version.

"Nothing Works" is a play on words, reflecting the lyrical ambiguities and double/triple meanings typical in Kevin's lyrics. Besides the obvious statement that "Nothing Works", it also reflects the idea that these are "Nothing" works, with no substantial meaning that will ultimately be thrown away and forgotten. "Nothing Works" is a collection of songs on themes of dysfunction, alienation and the impermanence of life.

With a vocal style that is very "Bowiesque" and clever instrumentation (all played by Kevin), the overall impact is both powerful and disturbing.

Nothing Works : "I wrote this is as a kind of Sci-Fi story about the Singularity, when AI advance so that machines are more intelligent than Humans"

What Becomes: "There was a musician I used to play with, but we broke up and went our separate ways. I often wondered what happened to him"

Something Special: "I wanted to try a Drums and Bass track: this is a kind of manic riff on self-doubt"

Never Had Much "I was very diligent as a child and applied myself conscientiously for most of my life. Did I miss out by not trying new things? This was kind-of inspired by a short story called "Up The Bare Stairs" about someone who becomes successful, but at the cost of not realty enjoying life"

Notice me (Gothic): "The underlying riff is solid rock, but I wanted to try create something almost hymnal: on a lyrical level, it's about the feeling of being outside and wanting to break in. I got some very strong negative reaction to this one in an online "focus group about it being "too dark", but I still like it"

Into the Arms of the Faithless: " Wouldn't it be nice to have something to believe in? One of my longer tracks, it's about searching and self-doubt "

Nobody Cares: " Sometimes I try to be serious, but in the end, nobody really cares for that deep stuff"

The Game: "On one level, this is about going on stage. On another, it's about fear"

Ghost: "A friend of mine died from cancer: this is for him"

You Never Heard A Word: "I think we all know people like this. For the record, it's not inspired by anyone specific (honest)"

The Remains; "This is one of my favourites: it's about marriage, kids and love in the face of all that life throws at you"

Notice me (Rock) : "Just a more stripped down version"
