Album Notes
KHP Music is becoming well known for releasing strong compilations, and following the successes of Shut Up And Shag and Ain’t No Doubt About It … Southern Fried Soul, the Dunn, North Carolina-based studio has released yet another winner with if ten’s gonna kill me…Give Me Nine!!! No better artist could have been chosen for the title track. Rickey Godfrey comes on strong with another hit. Also included is the hit song, Hold On To The Blues by Lonne “Mr. Blues” Givens. Opening with a strong number by The Power Of Tower, the release brings on other future hits from Sea-Cruz, Gene Cook, Full House, Paul Craver and Pam “Shaggie Maggie” Russell and Gary Bass with The Jelly Rolls with Rita May, on a number written by Bob Dylan and popularized a number of years ago by Jerry Lee Lewis. Those Mystic Soul Bubbas, Steve Bassett and Ammon Tharp, also join in with a number, as do Lavelle White and California notables, Jack Mack and the Heart Attack and Joe Esposito with Smith No Luggage. Dobie Gray, known for mega-hits such as The In Crowd and Drift Away, brings us his own co-penned Got My Heart Set On You, which was a number one hit in 1986 for country singer John Conlee. Produced by Kelly Harrison and Keith Houston, of The Band Of Oz.
