Kim Jordan’s Biography

Kim, a gifted artist, keyboardist, producer, composer, arranger, vocal coach and promoter received her BA in music from Howard University. Upon graduation, Kim was immediately hired by and subsequently became musical director for the iconic jazz poet “Gil Scott Heron” until his death in 2011. She received International acclaim for her live performances from such publications as The London Guardian, The San Francisco Examiner, The Chicago Tribune, The Washington Post, Vibe and Billboard Magazines.

Kim has over 40 years of experience in the music industry and was the first signed artist with the Washington D.C.-based Record Company, ProSounity Music Entertainment Label releasing several singles and three CD projects, All For You, Full Circle, and Uncommon.

Kim’s career to date includes her keyboard work on Broadway with Taj Mahal in the Zora Neale Hurston’s production, “MULE BONE” followed by a White House performance for President Bill Clinton saluting the anniversary of National Public Radio. She has performed with such notable artist as Roberta Flack, Stevie Wonder, Brenda Russell, Teri Lynn Carrington, Regina Carter, Common, Noel Pointer, Dave Valentine, Lonnie Liston Smith, Vanessa Williams, Meshell Ndegeocello, Suzanne Douglas and many others. Some of her Jazz performances have included the Jackie Robinson Jazz Festival; NYC Seaport Jazz Concert Series; The Congressional Black Caucus’ Salute to Women in Jazz; The Women in Jazz Series’ Kennedy Center, Washington, DC; The Black Academy of Arts and Letters, Inc. Theatre in Dallas, TX; The Detroit Opera House; The Detroit African American Museum; Syracuse Jazz Festival; and the New Orleans Jazz Festival to name a few. Several-acclaimed Musical Artist such as Dianne Reeves, Kevin Eubanks, Gerry Gonzales Billy Childs, Regina Carter, Carla Cook, and Janet Williams have performed her compositions and arrangements.

Her compositions have aired on TV shows such as “All My Children,” and the “CBS Morning Show.” She has written Jingles and Theme Songs for Organizations, Companies, and Churches including JAG Aerobics DVD, The City of Richmond’s “Move On” Health Initiative, Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. and Crossover Church. She also scored music for the Showtime Cable Network’s Young Black Film Makers Showcase Movie “Rain.”

She has worked as Musical Director, Composer, Producer, Arranger and/or Vocal Coach for a number of Award-Winning Recording Artists and Labels, including Gil Scott Heron on XL Records, Pure Soul and Mya on Interscope Records, Dru Hill on Island Black Music, and Terri Dexter on Warner Brothers Records.

As a former music teacher for the Washington, D.C. Public School System, she has received numerous awards including the prestigious ASCAP Music Award for composing and producing “We Must Be In Love” recorded by Interscope Recording Artist “Pure Soul”. She has received the Urban Gospel Alliance and Urban Gospel Industry Awards for Female Artist and Producer of the year in the Gospel-Jazz category. In December of 2008, Kim received her Master of Arts in Practical Theology from Regent University and on September 30, 2001, Kim was ordained a Minster of the Gospel at Crossover Church in Hyattsville, MD, where she continues to serve as Minister of Music.

In 2017-2018, Kim served as a guest facilitator and conducted Master Classes for the Washington, DC Arts Organization “The Musicianship Master Class Series”, “The City of Liverpool Arts College” and for “Edge Hill University” in Ormskirk, United Kingdom. She continued to tour with her production “My Tribute to Gil – A Musical Exposé” with performances in such cities as Washington, D.C., New York, London, Los Vegas, Baltimore and Detroit. She released “Put Your Hands Together” in the spring of 2018 and “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” in December of that same year. She continues to serve as a National Co-Music Director for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and on May 31, 2019, Kim will release her 4th CD Project entitled “Dreams Detours Destinies” on the Prosounity Music Entertainment Label In May of 2019, she will make her first appearance at Carnegie Hall with Toshi Reagon and Soul Mechanism: A Concert Celebrating The Music Of Migration.

Kim continues to Record, Produce, and Perform with her band “Uncommon.” She also remains a much sought after Artist, Composer, Producer, Arranger, Director, Vocal Coach, Preacher, Teacher, Clinician and Facilitator for Churches, Record Labels, Artists, Choirs, Conferences, Seminars and Workshops.
