Short Stack

by King Teddy

Short Stack, King Teddy’s first recorded offering, starts off thumping. The drums launch into the Big Bad Voodoo Daddy-styled "The Phantom of Main and Ordinary Street and the tone is set-- the foot doesn't stop tapping even after the last note of the retro-tooled "The Ballad of John and Yoko" has faded to silence.

Album Notes
"In the land of swing, this Teddy would be King." --Montgomery County Gazette

"…righteous melodies and classic rhythms…" --Port Halcyon

That's the general consensus about King Teddy's 2003 EP "Short Stack," a six-song sampler designed to keep their fans swinging until the quintet could produce a full-length release. And swing they did – this teaser was one of the reasons for the warm and unusually swift affirmation King Teddy received from Washington, D.C. area swing lovers, who had this to say about the EP:

"...strong with a sweetly retro feel. It had me bopping around the living room..." --Twist List

"They swing-- get the disc!" --Jitterbuzz

" amazing sound, King Teddy should pat itself on the back for its authenticity and originality."

The cd features songs that have become fan favorites, including the raucous “Phantom of Main & Ordinary Street," driven by a thumping drum beat and local favorite Chris Watling’s mighty baritone sax, the sweetly reminiscent “Forever,” which is one of King Teddy’s most requested songs, and the tried and true showstopper, courtesy of the Fab Four and some stylistic liberties.

I've heard these guys in person - very cool band and this may be one of my favorite CDs - great, great rhythm, phrasing, great vocals and amazing musicians , very well produced - and absolutely fun. Recommend this and other two CDs wholeheartedly.

Did I mention that I heard King Teddy in a retirement home ?...because one of the band member's granddad was there. The place rocked and the music brought three generations to their feet - you couldn't sit still. It was magic. Get busy, guys - we need more songs to download!
