Album Notes
Kipyn Martin interweaves simple truth with uncomplicated melody. And make no mistake—this woman knows the blues, and she knows how to use them. Exhaling one phrase with gentle lyricism, and the next growling with with guttural honesty, hers is an unmistakable and authentic voice.

Kipyn’s songwriting roots sink into the banks of the Shenandoah River. She has performed extensively throughout the eastern panhandle of West Virginia and Northern Virginia, alongside award-winning acoustic blues artist and mentor, Pops Walker. Kipyn also received a Master of Music degree in composition from Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, VA.

The songwriter remains smitten with music and its ability to strengthen and heal the spirit of entire nations. One can infer Kipyn’s insatiable thirst for harmony as they listen to carefully laid counterpoint between her voice and that of the guitar—they seamlessly merge into one identity.

Currently Kipyn can be heard in the Washington, D.C. area. A vitality of voice and honesty of heart make this woman a performing artist not to be missed.

"...Kipyn is something else. The most pure voice I've ever heard." --Karin Fuller, The Charleston Gazette

destined for greatness
Fresh voice. A little ballad, a little blue. I'd love to see her live.

Pure, Sweet, Sultry, and Honest - Don't miss it!
Female folk singer/songwriters may be a dime a dozen, but trust me when I say that this one is special. Kipyn Martin’s debut album Undercover Muse is at once insightful, endearing, relatable, honest, soulful, and heartbreaking. Martin’s background in music composition (she boasts a Master’s degree from Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, VA) serves her well as she skillfully crafts tunes that not only show off her flawlessly pure singing voice and depth of emotion, but also display her impeccable melodies and intricately woven guitar harmonies. Born and raised in the vista of the Shenandoah Valley, Martin’s soul is that of a poet whose inspiration lies in love, nature, heartache, strength, and passion. From the pop-influenced, foot-tapping title track “Undercover Muse” to the delicate, heart-wrenching beauty of “Nightbird” to the guttural, sexy honesty of “Got it Bad,” there’s something on this album for even the most discerning of listeners. Think Joni Mitchell, Eva Cassidy, Sheryl Crow, Stephen Stills, and Nick Drake blended together in a sweet, sultry cocktail for the 21st century. She’ll ignite your heart on a cold and lonely winter’s day and soothe your soul to sleep on a warm, summer night. When Martin moans, “Got it bad for you, baby” on the final track, I can’t help but agree.
