Album Notes
This EP introduces the listener to Kira's reflections, struggles and humor. Her first introduction to folk music was 1960s revival artists and indeed the pure, ethereal quality of her voice has drawn comparisons to Joan Baez. She was born and raised in Oregon and many of her songs, such as Madras Greyhound Line, speak to the culture and challenges of the west. Her songs possess a storytelling quality, and the content ranges from addiction, recovery and mental illness to love, rural poverty and aging. Kira draws on her own experiences of hardship and joy when writing. As a folk musician, she is drawn to stories of universal human experience and the catharsis that occurs through sharing both our suffering and our happiness. The music of the Kira Lesley EP emphasizes melody, lyrics and vocals. One of Kira's favorite musicians is Buffy Sainte-Marie, and in similar fashion to Buffy's music, each one of Kira's songs is a unique experience. She has played in Kira does not wish for stardom, but she does hope that her music touches the listener's heart.
