Album Notes
Recorded at Track Shack in Seattle over a long weekend in October 2011, Kissing Potion laid down 10 songs – nine originals and one rare cover. The 150+ years of collective musical experience of Kissing Potion’s members and their diverse regional influences from their respective upbringings are discernible throughout the album. From the gritty gospel blues of “Save Me in the Morning”, to the Earth, Wind & Fire/Marvin Gaye smoothness of “I’ll Make You Mine”; from the vintage-goes-modern-goes-retro-again feel of “Gimme Love” to the rock/funk politically motivated anthem “Big Mouth” – Kissing Potion strove to capture the tone and feel of the music they love, and through the composition and performance, to produce songs reflecting the members’ eclectic personal and musical lineage. The band is proud of the fruits of their labor, and is thrilled to have participated in Seattle’s music history.

Though they now call Seattle home, the five women and four men of Kissing Potion hail from all over the U.S. The natives of the Deep South, the Midwest, Philly, Jersey, the Bronx, and Seattle spent their weekend nights in their hometowns’ clubs and juke joints, then spent their Sunday mornings in the church pews praying for forgiveness. These are the human experiences comprising a vast and diverse set of harmonic & lyrical influences. Their musical foundations are firmly built on a deeply-held admiration for the styles upon which the group’s members were raised – 60’s & 70’s soul, funk, R&B, jazz, blues, and gospel.
