ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Album
Kiss the Girl shines like the California sun with a new stripped-down rock sound that has a retro 60's-70's vibe while still remaining "fresh and unabashedly sexy" (San Francisco Chronicle). Get With It features several songs used for major movie trailers and hit TV shows.

999,999 Girls appeared in The Mindy Project (TV), Arthur Trailer (Film), Friends With Benefits (TV), Tangled Trailer (Film), The Bounty Hunter (Film), Terriers (TV) and is available as a download for the Rockband Video Game. End of a Girl appeared in the major motion picture Movie 43 (Film). Get With It appeared in Friends With Benefits (TV). Good Thing appeared in Dr. Suess' The Lorax Trailer (Film), The Year One Trailer (Film) and 90210 (TV). She Likes Girls appeared in 90210 (TV).

Whether it’s the exuberant, upbeat answer to heartache of 999,999 Girls, the emotional call-to-arms of Get With It, the sexy-groovy lover’s talk of Good Thing or the passionate longing of I Just Want to Be in Love, Kiss the Girl’s new album will move you and make you move. Like previous releases, Get With It features deep, vibrant vocals, truly unforgettable melodies and guitar riffs backed by straightforward rock beats.

Kiss the Girl’s songs have received over 100,000 plays on radio and internet shows internationally and in 2009 they were awarded 3rd place in the Rock category in the Just Plain Folks Music Contest, the biggest music competition in the world.

Stories Behind the Songs
999,999 Girls
Sugar, I said you were one in a million girls. It was true. You were the love of my life. When we lost each other, I remembered telling you that. How could I recover from losing one in a million girls? Then one day, I saw the phrase from a different angle. If you were one in a million, that left me 999,999 girls from which to choose! The song helped. I only wish I could say that I no longer miss you.

Good Thing
No matter how much we loved each other, I saw that circumstances and life in general were beyond our control. I knew the only chance we had was to love each other, be the best we could be, and trust in something greater than ourselves, whatever that may be. “We don’t need control love, just believe and let love form this good thing.”

She Likes Girls
My friend took me to a topless club in San Francisco for my birthday. He had a crush on one of the strippers there that night. Turned out she didn’t fancy boys. I woke up the next morning with this song in my head. I was thrilled to get to hear the song on 90210 used in the proper context.

I Just Want To Be In Love
It’s pretty straightforward. I was standing in my living room with the ghost of her wrapped around my heart as usual. I remembered how it had been, unlike anything I’d ever known. And I longed for that again. I said aloud, “I just want to be in love.” Doesn’t everyone?

Shake Me Up
If I’m going to be with someone, I don’t want them to always make me comfortable. That goes for a friend or lover. I want them to challenge me, shake me up, wake me up from the dullness of soul, the take-it-for-granted attitude that comes from being too comfortable and from relying too much on the apparently material drudgery of day-to-day existence. The only real answer to life is to live it and help each other do the same. Everything else is a sales pitch.

Sham
No matter how much I think I know or know myself, it’s probably just another scam of my ego. I have multiple personas I use and defend and work to build up depending on the situation. And none of them are inherently me. It’s all a sham. Take a look at the venomous fighting going on in politics: one false ego fighting against another, even though they basically want the same things. Both sides claiming to be good and the other evil. So the suffering continues. Personally, I’ve found it best to completely forget about the idea of personal or spiritual growth. The only way to become who I really am is to forget myself, as often as I can. For me, the best ways to do that are meditation, time in nature, enjoying art, caring for others and using my talent to create the best that I can in the time I have. That’s what the song is about. Musically, it grew from the main guitar riff.

Get With It
Although it isn’t a simple equation as some have claimed, we do help to create our own reality. That’s where the idea of the song came from. In the end, it’s up to us to create the life we want to live, especially for those of us blessed with not having to worry about day to day survival. We’re privileged, and we should use that opportunity to create a meaningful life. “You’ve got the power in you. Use it now, now, now, now, now, now!”

I Think I Found Someone
Amazing how the right person at the right time can completely turn your world around. A friend of mine said this sounded like a gritty updated version of the Archies. I took that as a compliment.

You Gotta Be Kidding Me
I don’t know where this song came from. The phrase came either while I was lying down for a nap or when I got up in the morning. After that, I just had fun working out my moral outrage against this imaginary person who did something outrageously inexcusable. It didn’t come from a specific personal experience, though I could think of a couple.

End of a Girl
This was me making fun of my heartache over my lost love. It’s not the end of the world. It’s just the end of a girl. Then, I noticed the double meaning. Yeah, I know. Men!

Brother Sister Freedom
Basically a wake-up call to Americans who are siding with a tiny minority that are destroying our way of life for their own personal gain, because said Americans think if they side with this tiny group, they’ll get to join them. Sorry folks, doesn’t work that way, except for literally one in a million people. The game is rigged. It really is time for a revolution. I hope it’s not too late. And I hope it won’t be a violent one.
