An innocuous and enjoyable collection of instrumental music
The Knights Tempo's CD, "Adventures and Romance", delivers nine instrumental tunes that lead with mandolin and support with tremendous musicianship from bassist, Ed Lemmers; keyboardist, John Martling; and guitarist, Brian Jacobs. Bob Rericha, who's composer and mandolin-manner paints various layers of music within the four-piece band format. Bob, in the liner notes, alludes to a secret Da Vinci mode in track 8's, "The Far World". .so be careful. The record opens with "They Knew", our favorite on the CD. This poppy melodic simple turn-around jazz ditty could be a TV theme with some imagination. Track 4, is "Nebuchednezzer's Bop". Now, Nebuchednezzer is, we've researched, the name of Nebuchednezzer Senior's and his father, Nebuchednezzer, Duke of Zeru-Babel, first cousin's daughter, which by no accident is the feminine of vernacular, Nebuchednezzera. The tune, is a fitting tribute to all, especially around 2 minutes in with a standup bass solo that would make the entire Nebuchednezzer clan proud and balance atop the tip of an energetic pyramid. Track 7, "Frankie's Hat", is a 1/4/5 little bluesy thing. .nice. The most mystical tune, and musically deep, is "The Far World". Martling's piano is sumptuous. The final track, "Roxanne", features Matling again, this time on B-5 sounding tinkling with ample mandolin and crew supporting the right channel. An innocuous and enjoyable collection of instrumental music.

A fresh aproach
These all original tunes are concise little gems. The kind you find yourself humming and whistling. The ensemble work is tight and swinging. The timbre of the mandolin gives the band a very unique texture.
