Album Notes
Aloha my name is Kona, Born and raised on the island of O'ahu, Hawaii, music here is unbelievable. I grew up in a big musical family learning how to play the guitar by watching people play at back yard jams and things like that. I've been playing since I was 10 and never stoped. Performed as a drummer, 13 years old playing in bars, cool stuff!! During those years, I fell in love with different instruments and started to produce, sing and write music. I now play the guitar and write contemporary/acoustic/folk rock songs. I finally had the guts to record my own album and withdrew my entire savings and did it. I played all of the instruments except the keyboards and programming and sang all the vocals. I guess that's one way of saving money huh! The album is called "Changed" and my music is like John Mayer and Babyface rolled onto a slice of pizza. Check out my cd and please let me know what you think and I will email you back for sure! Once again mahalo, which means thank you in hawaiian, for your support and love for music...

My wife and I love this album!!! First time we heard you was on our wedding night, Live @ I believe the aloha towers, where the probowl players signing event was in 2005. We danced in the rain to you playing live music. I'll never forget it, MAHALO!!!!!

Here’s a review I got from the Honolulu Star Bulletin newspaper

Written by John Berger

The creation of a Hawaiian music category ensures that at least one Hawaii artist will win a Grammy this year. Erving "Kona" Chang isn't in the running, but this impressive album reminds us that local artists can record Grammy-worthy music, even without the advantage of a special ethnic category.
Chang is a modern pop troubadour with a good ear for the details that make this album of original pop-rock interesting. The album tells a cohesive story of ennui, romantic missteps and the search for true love.
While acoustic and electric guitars are the foundation of the overall sound, the judicious use of bass, percussion and keyboards adds variety and emotion. Chang's voice is reminiscent of Randy Lorenzo, but with more of a pop edge. His wit and imagination as a lyricist make "Changed" an album that sophisticated adults can count on enjoying with repeated play.

cloud nine and cloud seven

"CHANGED" by Kona; Linekona Records

• Genre: Contemporary, world music.

• Distinguishing notes: Kona (Erving "Kona" Chang), born and raised in Waimanalo, was a former drummer with Tropical Knights. He's evolved into a guitar-strumming crooner with a tender and soulful voice, easily summed up in the opening track, "• Am," a folk-oriented ballad with a refreshing and relaxing aura. Kona wrote the words and music, co-engineered the CD, and plays guitar (acoustic and electric), bass and drums and percussion. While ballads appear to be his forte, he adds a mild tempo and soft-rock riffs to some of the tunes ("Goin' Nowhere," "Luv 2 Hate You," "Jus Me and You"). Think James Taylor or John Mayer with a local spin.

• The outlook: Could be a biggie for Kona, with deejay support and exposure in an upcoming concert.

• Our take: If romantic reflection is your cup of tea, this one is terrific
