ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Lance Koonah, originally from Honolulu, Hawaii, is currently leading his own group (Lance Koonah Innerworkings.) His recordings can be purchased at certain Barnes and Noble stores in the New York region. Lance recently received a New York State Arts Council grant for 2005 to do several performances in the New York area. Before completing a several year term with the United States Military Academy Band at West Point, he received a Bachelors degree in music performance from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York where he was part of several groups including the Eastman New Jazz Ensemble. Recently he has perfromed extensively with his own quartet in the New York area and has had the opportunity to perform with musicians such as Joe Lovano, John Clayton, and Cameron Brown.

"Saxophonist Lance Koonah has much to say. To my ears, he's searching for his own voice, using elements drawn from Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, and possibly Clifford Jordan....he's always thoughtful and always searching."

little carlton oswald

not your usual run of the mill jazz recording
the cd takes the place of ear candy jazz and allows the compositions ( really good) to come to the forefront....this is worth adding to my catalog of jazz recordings.

This is great, the tunes, arrangements, and solos are all impressive! The sound is very polished and elegant, the laid-back atmosphere is somewhat reminiscant of the Pat Metheny group. There is a lot of detail and precision in Lance's playing, and I would recommend this CD.

From start to finish, I enjoyed the lush, mellow sound of Lance Koonah. I can't wait for the next CD.

Finally, an instrumental group that answers the question, "where's the melody?" I highly recommend this recording!
