Album Notes
Saxophonist Lance Koonah straddles the boundary between mainstream tradition and more contemporary fusion. His music never sacrifices melody over cerebral thought and contains many influences from Joshua Redman to David Sanborn. He has performed with greats such as Joe Lovano, Steve Turre, Robin Eubanks, and Cameron Brown.

Lance started playing the saxophone many years ago in his home state of Hawaii. That pursuit lead him to the famed Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York where he crafted and honed his skills on the saxophone. He has led Lance Koonah Innerworkings for the last two years and performs in and around New York City.

Calming yet energizing, it's music that speaks to the heart.
EXPRESSIONS 2 features original jazz composed and performed by Lance Koonah on saxophone, backed up by David Starck on piano, Robert Kopec on bass, and Nadav Snir-Zelniker on drums. The music is calming yet energizing. Playful improvisations juxtaposed with soulful melodies connect with that space deep within the heart where love, joy, longing and loss reside. Titles like "Sweet Lament" and "Never Look Back" suggest the unattainable dreams that are part of the human condition. The music affirms that it's O.K. to be happy and it's O.K. to be sad, and we should embrace life with its full spectrum of emotions and experiences. Looking back now and then isn't a bad thing. It helps us see where we've been, where we are now, and where we want to go. Lance Koonah and Inner Workings are moving in the right direction!

I like everything, and this CD hits that mellow mood perfectly. I have listened to it repeatedly for about a week and everyone that has heard it is really impressed. Anyway, if you are wondering about purchasing it, you won't be sorry.

A Great Way With Standards --Turns Out They're All Originals!
Lance Koonah and Innerworkings are currently knocking out audiences in and around New York City. The quartet on "Innerworkings-2" features Lance's current group with a solid rhythm section led by David Starck on piano and keyboards (David has his own group in the City as well), Nadav, outstanding on drums and Robert Kopec playing with finesse on bass. Lance, on tenor sax, has a great way with standards --especially when you realise they're all his original tunes! Highly recommended.

This music is classic sophistication mixed with new-style innovation. His talent shines in each track on the album and captivates me more and more. The timeless jazz style is enriched in his new songs. This is definitely an album for any collection. Astonishing work!
