ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Steve Kopandy has been writing and performing for over 12 years and has taken his music as far as the UK, USA and Europe, and as close to home as good old Newcastle Australia. His acoustic driven music is inspired, melodic, easy to listen to and always well produced.

As a young teenager 1991 to 1995, Steve was learning instruments, writing songs and singing in school choirs. Since 1995, Steve has written for and performed in various pop/rock bands, predominantly as the front man for Paperadio, where he gained most of his performing, writing, recording and management experience. Steve has performed to thousands of people and sold over 3000 CDs in Paperadio and other bands, performing from Brisbane to Melbourne and throughout the UK.

He released his first Solo EP in 2003, a collection of six demos, entitled Silver Things. Steve put together a line-up of local friends and began performing around Sydney and Newcastle, promoting the EP and refining his writing and performing.

In October 2003, Steve moved to London with Paperadio and has since been spending plenty of time performing with the band on stages throughout the UK, and working with the highly recognised pop producer Andy Bradfield (Beth Orton, Rufus Wainwright, Manic Street Preachers).

Steve cites Ben Lee and The Thrills as recent influences towards his first studio EP entitled 'Scripted' (Dec 2004). The EP is acoustic guitar driven with kicked back drums and lots of electric guitar and harmony layers and was produced in Melbourne by David Carr.

In 2005, Steve took his original songs and new EP straight into the West End music clubs in London, playing regularly amongst local and Australian counterparts. It was London that sharpened him up as a performer and a writer - so much inspiration to write in such a big and gloomy city compared to Newcastle. He also spent a lot of time in Continental Europe and has penned songs in Paris, Berlin, Belgrade and Sarajevo, being inspired by these amazing places and people within them.

He left Paperadio in London and returned to Newcastle late in 2005 to be closer to his family and to work with David Carr on what will become his first full length album. With recording already underway, the release is expected to be late 2006.

Kopandy Offers Up Shimmering Pop Diamonds...
Artist: Steve Kopandy
Title: Scripted
Format: CD EP
Genre: Pop-Rock
Label: Independent

Steve Kopandy introduces his rock-pop genius with Scripted, a four song EP. This CD is a superb introduction that everyone should hear. While Kopandy has many influences, actually a long list is on his My Space site, he manages to create some clever pop rock and come out sounding like himself and original. Do not be surprised if you find yourself saying-“This guy sounds like someone I have heard before” but not be able to put your finger on it.

This happens to me frequently while listening to new music, particularly indie artists that have a ton of influences like Kopandy. This is a credit to his abilities as a singer/songwriter/musician. Being a triple threat is very common but what I find most uncommon is someone with those abilities that can actually impress me, a song crafter that creates a tune that lingers in my mind and soul long after I have heard it. Bravo Steve! You have that distinctive ability.

While I only heard 4 songs, which was a disappoint because I wanted more, I found myself convinced that this man has what it takes to make his way to the top of the pops if someone would give him the opportunity to walk through that elusive door. Scripted is a platform for an artist on the rise to give you a taste of what is to come. The one song that really grabbed me the most was the closer “My Sisters Wedding Song.” It is a shimmering pop diamond with passages like-“There must be a million fish in the sea but you are the only one fore me, there must be a million stars in the sky, which one was made for you and I?” This is a beautiful string of words by a true wordsmith.

I look forward to much more than an introduction the next time around from this promising artist. Down under there is something happening and his name is Steve Kopandy.
