ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Mount Zion is at the highest point in the center of Jerusalem often referred to as the city of God, the place where the presence of God was most especially felt. As referenced by the Psalmist “The LORD loves the gates of Zion more than all the other dwellings of Jacob.” Today, Zion is used to represent the Promised Land or Heaven. Earthly heartaches and disappointments are a part of being alive. But in this place called Zion is where the Lord reigns and it is in this eternal perspective that our hope is found beyond the veil.
My wife, Jaymi and I always believed that our firstborn son’s name, Zion, was inspired by God. We believe his name defined his purpose and destiny as a lover of worship, but little did we know how surreal his life would turn out to be. Just before Zion turned 3 years old, he battled an aggressive brain tumor before crossing over to be with his Creator. Zion loved music and creative arts. Zion’s life was marked with purpose, his story has become a legacy through Out of Zion* that points people to Jesus, the One to whom Zion belongs.
“Journey to Zion” speaks about the struggles of life, the battles of the mind and heart, restoration, deliverance, and hope. As his parent, I journeyed alongside Zion through the valleys and mountains of his life. This album is an expression of worship through the lens of my son Zion. Now my heart aches as I long to be reunited with him someday as I journey towards the Heaven, the place where I believe he currently rests.
Psalm 87 embodies the entire message of the “Journey to Zion” album. The Psalmist dedicated this song to the sons of Korah, keepers of the doors of the house of the Lord. This Psalm was written in honor of Zion, the City of God, and it sings about God's favor to this city among the mountains, and the honor of being a bon-a-fide citizen of Zion. It includes an invitation to us all no matter what tribe, or what past, or history we have inherited. We are all invited to Journey to Zion, to make music and sing to the Lord.
He has founded his city on the holy mountain.
The LORD loves the gates of Zion more than all the other dwellings of Jacob.
Glorious things are said of you, city of God.
“I will record Rahab and Babylon among those who acknowledge me,
Philistia too, and Tyre, along with Cush, and will say, ‘This one was born in Zion.”
Indeed, of Zion it will be said,
“This one and that one were born in her, and the Most High himself will establish her.”
The LORD will write in the register of the peoples:
“This one was born in Zion.”
As they make music they will sing,
“All my fountains are in you.”
