ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"Only Love", Kulewa's second release to-date, displays their unique and refreshing twist on the Hawaiian/World Beat scene, with some suprises. Their new uptempo recording showcases the group's usual blend of styles including, hints of Rock, Jazz , R&B and Hawiiana. It stirs up a fresh tide pool of styles, which reaches back through time to the the Golden Age of Hawiian Music. With the addition of new instrumentation, including B3 Organ, Tenor Sax, Steel Guitar and Tahitian Banjo, Kulewa are clearly gowing up as artists, while also maintaining a foot in its Hawaiian and Polynesian environs.
As this dynamic band hits the mark with their latest release's title, 'Love' is a common thread throughout. Original compositions "Let Love" and "Love Heals", evokes sounds of Philadelphia R&B with some silky harmonies, B3 Organ and interesting chord progressions suggesting Steely Dan and Black groups of the 70s and 80s. With the addition of Bobby Ingano's Lap Steel Guitar, Kulewa meshes a bygone sound and pulls it into the present with classics "Honolulu, I'm Comin Back Again" and "Wakiki Chickadee", as well as the previously unreleased "My Maui Island Dream" from Hawaiian music Hall of Famer, Edna Pualani Farden Bekheart. The group also dips into shades of the South Pacific with tasty rhythms and Tahitian Banjo on "We Three" describing a lovers' missed rendevous. Jazz and reggae make an appearance respectively on "Dreamer" and "Walk and Don't Look Back" with a cameo of smooth and punchy Tenor sax work.
"Only Love" is a fine multifacited and multicultural musical journey that we have come to expect from this talented Hawaii-based band. Expect this quartet's latest work to wash onto far away shores and intrigue the ears of new listeners. Grab your copy of "Only Love" today.. Aloha!
