Album Notes
"GREAT DAY AT THE FUNERAL PARLOR"... What the...? It takes a twisted mind to write a happy, boppy song about funerals from the perspective of the mortician - "Mr. Lockhart is looking his best, laying on satin in a teri-cloth vest, a satisfied customer, a satisfied guest..."

"CONVERSATION WITH A MIRROR" isn't much better once you finally realize that this argument takes place between the same person. Fortunately, not all of the songs are this clever.

Tim Kwiat (pronounced "quiet"), A songwriter from Lancaster, PA. puts forth his 2004 solo effort by writing, singing, and playing every part of this album. "Mystic Ocean" is a collection of fresh and interesting classic rock & roll style recordings, contemplative lyrics, light moods, and melodic hooks. The self-proclaimed "jack of all trades, master of none" certainly holds his own by performing acoustic guitar, playful bass lines, and an old-school style of drumming, embellished with a wide range of interesting electric guitar parts, piano, organ, and a ton of assorted persussion instruments. Additionally, he sings all lead and backing vocal arrangements that could easily be placed among our classic rock heroes.

Strong emphasis is placed on harmony, without being overly lush or overdone. Sometimes rock, sometimes pop, sometimes psychadelic, sometimes folk - this record is a composit of various styles, but remains consistent. All in all, "Mystic Ocean" is a very straight forward record with a certain spiritual quality that will offer new perspectives with repeated listening.

Catchy fun to listen to on a Saturday doing errands.
I wish major labels supported artists like Tim. Great catchy tunes that won't depress you and might make you think a little. I found myself humming several of the tunes days later. GDATFP should be the theme song for HBO's Six Feet under. I put this on my CD player with Paul McCartney and Brian Wilson...that should tell you the caliber of music this guy makes.

Music by an Artist... starts off great and gets better.
Be careful when playing as background music, this album has a tendency to become the focal point. The albums that stay with me over time start off great, and each time I listen, get better. A great book is worth reading more then once. Great movies get better as you discover something that you missed the first time through. This album offers that same cutting edge creativity that draws you in. An album clearly inspired by music as an art form, not a product we so often settle for from the marketing machine. Keep it coming.

The more I listen, the more I like it

It's not often a mom and her teenagers agree on music.
Given to me by a friend who knew I was tired of listening to the repetitive sound of new rock artists, I first listened while doing chores. My son, home on break from college, asked what CD I was playing and the chores stopped while we listened together. It's great to hear music where the words have a part in the appeal of the song. We actually discussed some of the songs at dinner and now my high school daughter is a fan, too. The music is fun, the words, always interesting, the talent of the composer/ performer/musician, extraordinary. The CD makes me feel good!!
