Album Notes
Labyrinth Choir is a professional mixed chorus formed in the fall of 2011 by Dr. Anita Kupriss. The choir, based in Southborough, MA, consists of 20 professional singers and a professional pianist which presents two concert series per year, plus extra performances at churches and occasionally Jordan Hall in Boston. We combine with the audience and local artists, in order to create a new type of themed musical performance. The audience is invited to sing, speak, or move, so that it is a participatory, rather than a purely passive experience. Labyrinth Choir performs various genres of music: Classical, spirituals, jazz, Broadway and popular songs. Our musical mission includes supporting other local free-lance musicians and choral and instrumental ensembles and collaborating with them in performances.
Our 2019 "Celestial Whispers" CD features songs by Eriks Ešenvalds. We commissioned him to write a song for Labyrinth Choir called "Nightfall" which we premiered on this CD. We also premiered the first chamber version of his multi-movement work called "Whispers On The Prairie Wind." This exquisite and poignant work was re-orchestrated for chamber choir and orchestra. The composition is based on a Lakota text, poems of the prairie, a hymn tune called "Thirteen Were Saved" and writings on the devastating blizzard of 1888 in Nebraska.
