Album Notes
Lacona spent nine months in the studio recording Pantomime. The result could've filled a double album with over twenty tracks. Instead, fourteen were slated for the album with the rest remaining in the archives. Until the idea of releasing singles prior to the album surfaced - giving people the chance to hear two B-sides that would otherwise never see the light of day.
The politically charged "President's Day" contains a cacophonic transition where two conflicting styles collide leaving a hazy wilting guitar strumming in the aftermath. A contemplative modern-day topical folk protest song, the lyrics don't reach the listener as being too obvious - still managing to strike out against the apathetic with the refrain "Can't stop these wheels, can't stand up." With clunking banjos, Red Garland -like piano fills, lazy lap steel countermelodies, bouncing upright bass recalling Van Morrison's Astral Weeks, "Presidents Day" is a strange combination. The song is book ended by a country meets bluegrass feel and adds a jazz layer featuring Newbery on trumpet, Nate Lepine on clarinet, and Nick Broste on trombone. This horn section is found in the liner notes on many beloved records from Chicago bands.

Wet Snow (B-side) was originally a rock track reminiscent of Pinback that was recorded as a demo years ago. But for this session it's been stripped to just acoustic guitar and strings ending with the full band and horns.
