ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Question: Yikes! Why are there so many tracks?

*** Because half of the CD is original music but the other half is original poetry, some with music and some without. We've subtitled it "Songs, Riddles and Poetry you may remember indefinitely" because we believe it's deliciously unforgetable.

*** May I recommend a few selections? The first song, "Come On In," is one of my favorites. Other people have gone gaga over "Goldilocks" and there's almost no one who doesn't love "I Love You 100," written for my 4-year-old son, a budding math genius.

*** Two of the poems ("Deep in the Forest" and "A Sound Riddle") were published in LADYBUG Magazine, and "Fireflies" was published in CRICKET. So you could say, or I could say, that I am a published poet.

*** The CD was produced in Nashville with studio players who knew how to push a good song over the edge into greatness. Although originally produced in 1994, we didn't make CDs until 2004. Thus, the time warp.

*** But enough from me. I suggest you read a few of the reviews below.

*** Thanks for stopping by! I'm so glad you found me! Mary

Parents' Choice

We won the Parents' Choice Gold Award!
In balladeer style, Mary Lafleur gives familiar tales such as "The Little Red Hen" and "Chicken Little" a rhythmic, pleasing musical spin, tells "plucky, playful and wiggly" riddles and recites her own poems, with their images to toothy icicles, sleeping bears, fiery skies, and slipping, dripping drops of rain.

A Charming Preschool Album
A menagerie of "Songs, Riddles & Poetry you may remember indefinitely," Pink Elephants is a charming preschool album. Sweet-voiced Lafleur, who worked with homeless children in Nashville, skillfully intersperses her folk-based songs with original poetry and riddles, just right for the typically brief preschool attention span. Lafleur's music is melodic and easy to learn. Her poetry, though, is what makes this album utterly charming, calling to mind masters of the form such as Eileen Fisher, Jack Prelutsky, and Even Merriam. And Lafleur's riddles are just the thing, when solved, to give young minds a supreme sense of accomplishment.

Mistake!

I wrote "Even Mirriam." Yikes. It should be "Eve Mirriam." Sorry.

This CD is great! I'm 46 and my daughter is 9 and we both love it!
This is by far Mary's best CD. We have wanted it since we saw her at our local library when my daughter was about three years old. (We had checked out the cassette tapes from our library several times over the past few years and we remembered all of the songs on the CD and had also used songs from this CD for Vacation Bible School). We have heard the other two CD's but there is something extra special about this one! It's great, Mary! Hope you are doing great!

One of our favorite CDs!
We had this album on a tape when our kids were little, and I had forgotten about it until recently, when a friend reminded me of it. I bought the CD and surprised my family by playing it for them in the car, and even though they are now 14, 12 and 8, they still were mesmerized by it. Mary's sweet, warm voice is unique, and her delivery of these poems, riddles and songs is gentle and often humorous. When our kids were small, we practically wore out the tape listening to it over and over, and I have every piece memorized. Do your family a favor and bring this magical album into their lives!

Pink Elephants
I knew Mary when she and I lived in Nashville, and always admired her work. Her voice is perfect for children and even though she passed away last year, her songs and spirit live on in this wonderful recording.
