ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
LAMMY
A.K.A. Mr. True

WITH THE HELP OF LIFELONG FRIEND PETER DISTEFANO
OF PORNO FOR PYROS, THE MULTI-TALENTED RAPPER,
SINGER, SONGWRITER AND PRODUCER CREATES A
POWERFUL MIX OF HIP-HOP, ROCK, RAP AND FOLK
ON HIS DISCS BEWARE THE WEAPON! AND FACE THE TRUTH!

With the explosive, in your face emergence of L.A. based multi-talented rapper, singer, songwriter and producer Lammy aka “Mr. True,” the cookie cutter, copycat mentality that rules the music industry is officially a tragedy of the past. A completely DIY artist with the cajones to forge a whole new revolution in vibe and attitude, Lammy’s scorching mix of hip-hop, rock, rap and folk is what might result if Clint Eastwood or the Marlboro man rapped--or if Johnny Cash, Eminem and The Chemical Brothers jammed together and popped out a visionary kid. Hip-hoppers up on their rock history peg him as the Syd Barrett of rap after the iconic and mysterious Pink Floyd founder.

One of the coolest things about Lammy is that he’s boldly eager to Face The Truth! the title of his latest independently released CD. On this riveting 16-track collection, he’s not afraid to
“Bump It!”, “Shake It!”, dive into the “Sea of Love,” spend “Christmas Alone”, get “Animalistic” and “Never Say Die.” He’s also cool about baring his soul and telling the world how “Lowdown” he got when his longtime girlfriend split during the middle of recording Beware The Weapon!, his first recording in 2007. “I did this album for the boys who get their hearts broken, so they know they’re not alone,” he says. On Face The Truth!, Lammy further develops his cartoon cowboy alter-ego Mr. True, who like a favorite uncle gives no holds barred advice to the core audience of young guys ages 16-30 who need it. Lammy envisions developing Mr. True into a multi-media icon, a friendly, straight dope sheriff this generation can look up to.

Lammy also wrote, produced, rapped, sang and played guitar on Beware The Weapon!, whose title riffs on the idea that women in our culture have all the power over men because they can give or withhold sex as they please. The countrified Western folk rapper laments that not all things are fair but gives voice and hope to those young men who want to take the power back. “Societies can crumble and leaders can fall because of this weapon,” Lammy says, “because men will do whatever it takes to be with the girl!”

The fact that his girlfriend broke up with him midway through the project adds a gritty authenticity to the edgy 14-track flow. The listener can feel the pain the moment she left—she sang on the first few tracks then mysteriously disappeared and took her weapon with her! Lammy produced Beware The Weapon! with his lifelong friend, famed rock guitarist Peter Distefano, who is well known for his stint with Perry Farrell and Porno For Pyros and Venice Underground, as well as later collaborations with Scott Weiland and Bauhaus vocalist Peter Murphy; he is also a regular with Farrell every year at Lalapalooza.

Lammy and Distefano grew up together in Santa Monica, where during junior high and high school they surfed and picked up girls as The Game Runners. Before everyone was making millions rappin’, the two of them were “cappin’,” creating a spirited tongue in cheek insult rap that once shocked the frat boys at a party they crashed at UCLA. Lammy was right there cheering his pal on when Distefano launched his career with L.A. surf band K-38, and now, Distefano is helping bring Lammy’s cracklingly cool and original music to the world. The two are currently working on musical cues for film and television. A late bloomer who picked up his first guitar at age 30, Lammy has had an immensely cool day job for the past 15 years as a professional fishing guide at Castaic Lake north of Los Angeles.
