Be Careful What You Wish For

by Lana Kress

Modern country CD which should be the envy of many "famous" artists. Lana can vary feelings and emotions from tender ballads to more rocking tunes. Her songs range from the pleasant to the great and there are many which should become hits.

Album Notes
Review from a DJ:

As expected, the package you sent arrived and I have already listened to your CD several times. Every month I receive like thirty or forty CDs by singers who shouldn't even be allowed to sing in the shower and it makes me wonder why on Earth their producers wasted their money on them. On the other hand, there are those great artists, with great CDs, top notch production and a terribly appealing song selection who should be huge stars and are not... yet. Fortunately your case fits the second category! I have received music by artists produced by Dick McVey before and I see Dick doesn't waste his time and money on people who don't deserve it.

Yours is a beautiful CD which should be the envy of many "famous" artists recording for a big label. But in their cases, many times there are three or four songs worth listening to and then the rest are just fillers, written by their producer and included in the CD just to satisfy their ego/pocket. In your case it is evident that you have chosen material that you like and it shows in your voice and interpretation. Your voice is clear and warm, you have a perfect command of it and you can vary feelings and emotions from tender ballads to more rocking tunes. The songs range from the pleasant to the great and there many which should become hits.

If you like Lari White's songs (as this is clear in your CD) she should be more than proud since you have improved her own tunes. Your version of "If I'm Not Already Crazy" has beautiful steel guitar work at the beginning (which was practically non-existent in the original) which establishes the sadness of the song right from the start; there's nothing sadder than the crying of a steel guitar and in this case it fits perfectly well with the lyrics and your heartfelt performance. "Go On" also shows more energy than Lari's version. Nice version of "Dancing Round and Round", a song recorded by Olivia Newton-John way back in the 70s when she was country. "Sidetracked" is by far my favorite and I will be playing it in high rotation. Other songs I will play throughout the year are tracks 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7.

You have come up with a great CD, with strong arrangements and clean production, effortless, beautiful performances, stunning looks and good choice of material. What else could anyone as for? You definitely have a winner here and deserve to gain a following with it.

I am sorry for the length of this message; I hope these comments help and encourage you somehow. Once again, thanks for your time, help and effort and keep it country!!

Beatifully evocative and soulful
Not being a country fan I was pleasantly surprised at how good this album is. I am simply amazed at the beauty of Lana's voice. This is a soulful and moving album, with a mix of sublime ballads and modern country songs.

Lana you possess a truly special gift. You are extremely talented and I simply love your voice. I wish everything you wish for comes true.

An excellent debut album!!
There are 12 tracks on the album, including one titled "Step Away", which is an original Lana co-wrote with Lisa Ellis & Vernon Reynolds. Some of the others are covers of songs which were written by some of Nashville's better songwriters, like Bob Dellaposta, Verlon Thompson, Suzi Ragsdale, and one of my personal favorites, Lari White. As a matter of fact, one of my all time favorite songs, is a Thompson/Ragsdale song from Lari's "Wishes" album. It's title is "If I'm Not Already Crazy" and it is done beautifully on this album by the clear, high soprano voice of Lana Kress. In my humble opinion, this song alone is enough to justify the money spent on buying the album. You will now find this song listed on my Favorite Indie Songs List.
The nice thing about buying the whole album though, is that you get a lot of other really fine music as well. Some of my other favorites on this album include a second Thompson/Ragsdale creation titled "I Know Too Much", and two from the pen of Lari White herself, titled "That's Why I'm Walkin'" & another of my all time favorites, "Go On." I also enjoyed "Let Me Be The One", "Long Night", "Step Away", and the title song, "Be Careful What You Wish For."
One of the things I would like to point out about this album is the intro of the song "I Know Too Much." One of the earmarks of a really good song is that will have a really good intro. This is usually done with a combination of the band instruments and some good production work. In the case of this particular song, the intro part that really captures the listeners attention and draws you into the mood of the song, is the way Lana uses her voice to slip and slide from one note to another in a manner that just screams the word BLUES!! On Lana's page of my site, I've made a special sound clip which demonstrates what I mean. It truly marks this young lady as an artist to watch. I'm sure we'll hear more from her soon.

much enjoyed- clarity in word- sung with feeling
Humor was included with shipping, well packed and prompt. Pleasing cover photos. Great to have written words(tho not needed for her)included.Sequence of song title good. Artist sets mood very well

Simply Beautiful; Tugs at the Heartstrings
I'm not a complete Country Music nut (not quite), but here in NZ I run an LPFM radio station, TLC Radio, as a labour of love ( We have had Lana's CD "Be Careful What You Wish For" in our music library for years, in a low quality 64K format. This wonderful singer deserves better. When I happened to hear her song "I Know Too Much" on our station this afternoon, it moved me, and I knew that I had to have a higher quality version. It is with much pleasure that I have downloaded the high quality VBR files from CDBaby in support of this lovely artist. She deserves our support, and most certainly has mine.

So, do I recommend Lana's music: you bet!

Unbelievable. Guys be warned - she is addicting & song is HOT
Guys, this is one of those songs that you can play with the message in it for your girl, or just when you are kicking back with a beer and thinkin to yourself - what was I thinking.... check out her other tunes, and visit her web site. Maybe she will make another CD sooner than later.

I recently was given a gift of a CD by Lana Kress, and it was TERRIFIC. I had never heard her before and I really enjoyed it, but you can be sure that I will listen for her in the future. Sincerely an older country/western fan who thinks you are prettier than S Twain.

Wonderful young singer
I have had my CD for over a year now and still enjoy listening to Lana sing. I am hopeful that she will have a new CD out soon. She has a beautiful voice and a wonderful personality. Great young rising star.
