Album Notes
Creature Comforts

I've been recording to date for about 30 years and Creature Comforts falls somewhere in the middle of it. It was my 7th recording project and I have had 6 since then. It was kind of a dark time for me and I can hear the pending train wreck in the lyrics and in my voice. Strangely, it's one of my strongest offerings.

Angus Stark owned a project studio on the outskirts of my hometown. He had a couple of 8 track ADAT machines that you could link together and get 16 tracks. It was tape but it was digital. His brother owned a siding business and Angus had his rig set up in some of the front offices of the warehouse. Angus was and is a total gear head and tone freak. He's responsible for the harder edge on this recording and he played all the heavier guitar parts. Up until then my recordings were pretty much acoustic with a lighter guitar sound but Angus had this rack of shit that just sounded big and full of killer grit that I had not been able to achieve before.

The cover is a painting by a world class blues harmonica player in my area named Rod Ramsay. He showed me a binder full of his work one night and I kind of liked that one. It reminded me of some creature from a swamp about to have a chat with me about my behavior. Plus Rod told me he painted it with a screwdriver so that clinched it. Oh Ya, Rod plays on "Rollin' with the Punches" and "Diamonds and Gold"

So that's the short story of Creature Comforts. I plan to put up more projects as time and energy allows. Later in 2008 I will be recording some songs for a CD to promote
Habitat for Humanity. Stay tuned
