Album Notes
The Last Eighth (J to tha A and Kev Strange) is a VA underground hip-hop mainstay as well as a powerful production force from VA, the land of producers (Timbaland, Neptunes, Knottz). Seen performing in spots from DC to Richmond and beyond, having opened for the Roots and producing for the likes of OUO, Cadence (Raw Produce), Skillz, Sammy Bravo, Storm the Unpredictable, Breez Evaflowin' and Madd Drama Records. With a diverse set of influences from Black Sheep to Black Moon to Black Thought to Black Rob and everything in between. The Last Eighth's style is definitely straight up underground, "East Coast Rock", but the subject matter is geared towards the realities of their lifestyle. Far from petty crooks or preachy bohemians, The Last Eighth talk about topics that range from setting it on sucker MC's, to posting up in the gentlemen's clubs, the state of hip hop today, or just dropping the sunroof for a leisurely ride through the gritty reality of the city streets. Both J to tha A and Kev Strange handle production duties for the group with production styles that range from soulful samples and chops to cutting edge keyboard work. No amateurs here, their production credits speak for themselves and they are available for outside production work. The Last Eighth's VA sound is what your next project needs for that hard to find sound and they can be contacted through this site to arrange the particulars of your project.

As for what to expect from the group, The Last Eighth is first preparing to release a single "Mercy" b/w Pearls. "Mercy" is the lead single from the debut full length from VA underground juggernauts The Last Eighth, titled "Business and Pleasure". "Mercy" is an official street banger with club and college radio play written all over it. To complete the slaughter of Kev Strange's production, the Last Eighth enlisted the aid of VA's Skillz, and Dumi Right from their sibling group O.U.O. Rugged rhyme styles and pristine underground production from beginning to end make this single a true undergroung gem. The single also includes "Pearls", the Last Eighth's foray into the pleasure side of the single. Rarely do underground groups seek the attention of the ladies, but the Eighth literally grabs their attention by the jewels. Sure to blow up the request lines by the ladies, let's just say The Last Eighth expands their mastery of the "oral" tradition in a way not quite expected. Metaphors that will have you rewinding saying "Did he just say what I think he said?" and bubbling production from the Eighth's J to the A seals this as a winner. The single preceeds the full length album tentatively titled "Business & Pleasure" and is in the works as you read this. Release date is slated for early '07 and the exact date hinges on the Eighth finishing up their numerous lucrative side projects and production schedule.
