Album Notes
"Now Is Where You Are", is the long awaited, self-produced, debut album by Laura Casale. Over a decade in the making, the album consists of 13 tracks which mix progressive melodic rock and ambient atmospheric songs. The album tells stories of the journey of her life experiences, both physical and spiritual, with lyrics that offer hope of renewed love, life and peace. The CD, available exclusively on her website, contains a 24-page booklet full of pictures, lyrics, and artwork by Ed Unitsky, the international visual artist, known for his captivating surrealistic art for progressive music and rock albums.
All songs are written and produced by Laura Casale. She sings all the vocals, including background vocals. She also plays the piano, synthesizers, organs, and created the virtual orchestral accompaniment. She is joined by some very fine, and well-skilled, musicians that bring enhancement to many of the more progressive rock-style songs. Her son, Daniel Reeves, plays bass on 5 tracks, “New Millennium,” “Smilin’,” “Broken Wing,” “The Real You,” “The Voyage,” and “Metamorphosis.” Paul Brannon, one of Nashville’s finest studio musicians, provides the guitar work on all the songs as well as bass on “Rescue” and “Big Sky.” Jorgen Stougaard, a special guest from Denmark, provides slide guitar on the first track, “New Millennium”.

Two different drummers played on this album. Frank Basile, with dynamic expertise brings intense thunderous drumming to “New Millennium,” “Big Sky,” “Full Moon,” “Reflections,” “The Real You,” and “The Voyage.” Van Hunsberger, provides intense rock-style drumming, beautiful, swelling, cymbal work, plus fine tuned and detailed percussion on “Rescue,” “Now Is Where You Are,” “Smilin’,” “Broken Wing” and “Metamorphosis.”

Laura Casale grew up on Long Island, New York. She was a piano player from the very beginning, who was “born to play music.” Classically trained, Laura, early in her career, keenly listened to innovative British Rock bands, such as “Yes” and “Emerson Lake & Palmer,” as well as highly skilled American progressive bands, such as Kansas, and was inspired.
Much like her musical influences of the past, Laura’s music holds messages of her own life’s journey. It is her desire to share her journey, through her music, to bring enlightenment, enjoyment, love, and peace to those that need a little relief from life’s struggles. It is her hope that through her music, the soul of the listener will find peace and that his/her spirit would also be uplifted!

“Being a piano player, singer, and lover, of classical music, I couldn't help but fall in love with some of the English Progressive bands when they were at their peaks during my high school years. My early musical influences were bands such as ELP, YES, Kansas, The Dixie Dregs, Led Zeppelin, The Who and Pink Floyd. Elton John amazed me with his piano skills, as did Billy Joel’s - along with his amazing storytelling lyrics. In the 80’s, Bruce Hornsby became one of my very favorite piano players, Enya swept me away with her ambient voice and instrumentation, and Sting’s passionate voice and songwriting, captivated me for hours on end. In the 90’s bands like The Dave Matthews Band, Tool, Radiohead, No Doubt, and new progressive bands like Spocks Beard rocked my world. The female artists of the 90’s came to the forefront and I started covering artists like Tori Amos, Sheryl Crow, Shawn Colvin, and Sarah McLachlan, at my gigs. All through these eras of music, one thing remained – my love for movie soundtracks. I have always loved music that paints pictures and creates atmosphere. Soundtrack composers such as John Williams, James Horner, Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, John Barry, Howard Shore and Alexandre Desplat have my greatest admiration as some of the finest composers in our modern day and age!” – Laura Casale

“I give my heartfelt thanks to God, my creator for giving me the gift of music, my voice and the incredible journey of life which has inspired me to write these songs.” – Laura Casale

Official Album Reviews:

“Now is Where You Are is the long awaited debut album from singer, songwriter, keyboard player Laura Casale, over a decade in the making and finally arriving, self-produced & released, with gorgeous artwork adorning the CD courtesy of the always reliable Ed Unitsky. Joining Casale here is her son Daniel Reeves (Bass), Paul Brannon (Lead Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Mandolin, Bass), Frank Basile (Drums), Van Hunsberger (Drums, Percussion), and Jørgen Stougaard (Guitar, Slide Guitar). Now is Where You Are features 13 tracks of lush progressive rock, melodic rock, pop, and a touch of ambient. It's all very atmospheric & uplifting, many of the songs quite catchy and filled with melodic hooks that stay with you long after the CD has come to an end.
It's easy to get excited over a song like "Rescue", an upbeat prog rocker complete with soaring vocals, instantly addicting melodies, and daring instrumentation that recalls Yes, featuring some tasty Steve Howe inspired lead guitar work courtesy of Brannon. He again adds some splendid lead work to the symphonic gem "Big Sky", a song also punctuated by Casale's gorgeous vocals and plenty of majestic keyboard tapestries. I think if Yes had included a few songs such as these on their most recent CD Heaven and Earth the reception would have been much more positive. The poetic "Full Moon" and the atmospheric "Reflections" show a softer, more tender side to Casale, both tracks featuring lush soundscapes and dreamy vocals, with intriguing lyrics that are spiritual yet come from the heart. "Smilin' " is a quirky, fun tune, with a charming lyric to go along with bouncy prog/pop arrangements, while the soaring "Broken Wing" just warms your heart & soul with its enchanting vocals, majestic piano, and overall soothing textures. The title track hints at influences such as Yes, Heart, Gentle Giant, Renaissance, and ELP, as engaging keyboard & guitar passages intertwine with passionate vocals and intricate rhythms. Casale's ability to create wonderful keyboard orchestrations with rich colors & tones can be heard on "The Voyage", and the near 11-minute "Metamorphosis" features grandiose piano passages and lovely vocal melodies, as this song about 'new life' just sweeps you off your feet, reminding of some of the classic material of the great band Renaissance.
This is just a wonderful little album, and it's instantly apparent that a ton of love went into the creation of it. From the lyrics, to the musicianship, the production, and the enchanting artwork, Now is Where You Are is a positive, emotional, and powerful collection of songs that captures your senses and lifts your soul. Melodic prog fans would be well advised to seek this one out.”

“As a project, "Now Is Where You Are" is a thorough triumph of heart and artistry over pain and adversity. Every track conveys a spirit of unflagging positivity, even as the harsh realities of this life are acknowledged and explored. Throughout the generous 75 minutes of composition that touches at least a dozen genres (including art rock, ambient soundscapes, pop and even blues), Casale achieves an organic fusion of music and lyrics that few artists achieve. This album - while immediately familiar - continues to reward repeat listens with new discoveries and moments of musical and spiritual exhilaration. Highly recommended!!” - Rob Price, Supernal Endgame USA

“A long time ago, when I first heard the single "Now Is Where You Are", I was totally blown away! It was incredibly moving and literally moved me to tears - that's how awesome that song is! It truly is a musical and spiritual journey that encompasses the best of what we've all felt throughout our own lives..............Love, Excitement, Joy and on and on. Hearing this album will definitely put a smile on your face, lift you up and even bring a tear or twelve to your eye. That's the effect that Laura's voice and the absolutely incredible music will bring! All in all, if there were only one album I could get this year, it would be this one. I can't imagine a time when this won't be playing in my homestead on Olympus, as I choose to surround myself with the most positive of sights and sounds......and what better sounds to hear than those from this album... Thank you SOOOOO much, Laura, for the years you've put into this album, though a simple 'thank you' will never be enough. I can only hope that this album will touch the hearts of millions as it's touched mine and others. With that, I'll press 'play', send you a hug and a smile and a tear, and raise my coffee mug to you! Well done, Laura, well done!” - Steven, USA
