Album Notes
*****"Laura's voice is amazing and harkens to mind the jazz greats of old." -Tristan Smith, Jam Magazine Oct 2006

*****"Laura Ellis has an exceptional talent. Her voice has a soothing warmth likened to an alto flute and a sensuality and intimacy in her performance that makes one feel like she is singing only to them. "
-Alan Paul, The Manhattan Transfer

On her King Records debut CD Here Lies Love, Kansas City-native Ellis tips her hat to influences like Sarah Vaughan and Dinah Washington with her sophisticated take on legendary songs like Blue Gardenia and Moonray. Produced by Alan Paul of Manhattan Transfer fame, Here Lies Love delves into several styles - from the Latin-flavored title track to straightforward balladeering - but always remains true to the jazz genre.

Raised in Kansas City, Ellis began honing her vocal skills when she was 10 years old, singing along with her father's old 45rpm records. As a young adult, Laura attended Kansas State University, where she trained in dance and vocal performance and toured the USA singing as a member of the K-State Singers. After graduation, she moved to Los
Angeles and began her professional career not only as a singer but also in acting. Some of her TV performances include, Make Me Laugh, History Channel's Route 66 and Modern Marvels documentaries, the HBO series, Carnivale and an appearance with one of her singing idols, Della Reese, in an ad for Avandia.

On stage, Laura performed a one-woman show entitled The Vintage Voice, which was critically acclaimed and ran for 4 years. She has also performed as a member of the all girl vocal group The Wonderelles, honoring girl groups of the 40's 50's and 60's.
The Sept. 27 release of Here Lies Love comes in support of her first tour of Japan and more date to be announced in the United States.
"The main thing you can expect at a Laura Ellis show is seeing someone who finds great joy in performing," Ellis said. "And hopefully that is infectious."

Sultry voice Very Nice!!!
Always nice to find a new Jazz Vocalist with a voice like hers. If you like Jane Monheit, I think you will like Laura also. Received the cd very fast also, props to CD Baby.

Although we enjoyed each and every song. We hope to hear
"My Shining Hour" performed, say on the Jay Leno show.
This is one Classy performer. Can't wait to hear more.

i think that laura ellis has a beautiful, soulful voice. many beautiful, beautiful moments. so relaxing to listen to.
i thought that the record as a whole though could use a little more variety. everything was 'beautiful...' could use something else to balance it out and make it a truly great cd.

I am new to the jazz scene, but I have been really getting into the standards and thought I would give her cd a chance. I am glad I did, it is an excellent cd that really hits home.

Sultry addition to the line of jazz greats
Laura Ellis proves that she can take on numerous jazz styles - from straightforward balladeering to a latin groove - with enjoyable ease. For jazz vocal purists, Ellis' flawless delivery is an absolute welcome addition. Capturing the sadness of a song like "Lonely Woman" in a single line or two, then about-facing with a vibrant rendition of "Tea For Two," Ellis deserves to be a jazz vocalist here for the long haul.

I'm giving this CD to everyone I know for Christmas!
I've been listening to Laura Ellis sing all over LA for the past ten years. I've been waiting a long time for this CD, but it's definitely worth it. I'm giving this CD to everyone I know for Christmas! I bet this is wonderful collection of songs will be the end of Laura Ellis -- best kept secret in Los Angeles, and the beginning of Laura Ellis -- everyone knows she's the best voice in jazz.
