Album Notes
Laura Thomas, a singer-songwriter based in Brooklyn, NY, has been compared to Alanis Morissette, Ani Difranco, and Sarah MacLachlin. This Birmingham, Alabama native isn't just another girl singer who can hold a tune. Laura has a voice you can recognize in a millisecond. Somehow, her voice is technically proficient and emotionally raw, quietly subtle and blatantly complex, hard, soft, funky, lyrical, undefinable...

For the past seven years since her radio debut in Vermont, Laura Thomas has been musically and physically all over the map. As the lead singer of DC-based band Kiki and the Rockstars, Laura rocked the audience at the Velvet Lounge into a "record breaking" frenzy. Local fans in Dunedin, New Zealand, rarely missed her weekly jazz sessions at the Arc Café with pianist Trevor Coleman. In Sao Paulo, Brasil, Laura guest starred in mind-bending funk jams at first-rate clubs like Urbano and Grazie a Dios. Out of all that, she developed her own style - an emotional-girl-folk-rock that's unlike anything that has been laid down before her.

This year she co-produced her first album, "On My Sleeve," and launched a solo career. Her biting, no-bullshit lyrics, powerhouse voice, and driving rhythm guitar make for an unusually high-energy show. Laura is not your average folkie - she sings with Ani Difranco's tell-it-like-it-is defiance, Alanis Morissette's sheer, clear power, and at times, the sultriness of a jazz singer. The result is an audio-shock of emotional truth.

A Powerful and impressive premier
This CD rocks. Laura Thomas is a one of a kind artist that I wish I had learned about earlier. I saw her live in NYC and was totally blown away. She bangs and rips on a guitar like Anni DiFranco but better. He voice is sexy and curvy, drawing you in and pulling on your heart and testing your ears. Really solid and strong music that deserves main-stream media play. I can't get enough!
