Album Notes
A celebrated singer/ songwriter whose soothing voice has entranced millions of listeners with her hit song, "Fallen" from the Pretty Woman soundtrack, releases her much anticipated CD, Love, Death & Customer Service, a stunning suite of new songs and unreleased treasures. From the smooth jazz single, "Contradictions," to the sweeping ballad, "Cora's Theme," the Steely Dan-esque, "You Gotta Love Those Guys, an inspired cover of "Time of the Season," the invitingly quirky, college radio hit, "Come and Live With Me," and the sweet and upbeat, "You're Mine," Lauren weaves together a hybrid form of pop, jazz, AC and funk influences to tell her story of the tribulations and triumphs of love, death and customer service - all with her signature sultry vocals and meticulously delicious sound production. The CD concludes with an ambitious opus, "Walk Towards the Light," a revelatory, eight minute look at the cycle of time -complete with gospel choir and a fadeout in quasi-military cadence. Love, Death and Customer Service is an honest, melodious, heartwarming, delightful, ironic, and truly inspiring slice of life.

“Lauren Wood is simply a huge talent. The immensely creative singer/songwriter who gave the world “Fallen” has done it again. Love Death & Customer Service is filled with soul-satisfying songs… all delivered with that trademark alto. You’ll get to the end and immediately want to have another go.”
--Dave Koz, musician

“The last time I heard Lauren Wood's "Fallen" was some years ago in a taxi in San Francisco. As the driver turned up the volume on KKSF, he and I said simultaneously, "I love this song!" I've missed Wood's presence on radio, so it's a thrill to hear her stunning new project, Love, Death & Customer Service. Here, Wood's prodigious songwriting talent is matched by her expressive vocals and outstanding production; "Contradiction" and an unforgettable cover of The Zombies' "Time of the Season" stand out!”
--Carol Archer, Radio & Records Magazine

“Love, Death and Customer Service is the freshest CD I’ve heard in years… and in the midst of a world where every singer sounds the same, Lauren has the freshest voice I’ve heard in years. I’m a fan for life!”
--Patti Austin, Recording artist

“Lauren Wood's new album "Love, Death, and Customer Service" is truly a testament to this artist's great talent and rampant creativity. Acting as producer, songwriter, singer, keyboardist and even drummer, she has created an album with incredible energy and substance. From the smooth jazz-funk feel of Steely Dan, to quirky pop tunes that bring to mind David Byrne or Ani DiFranco, to love songs with the depth and emotion of Kate Bush, she brings it all off with heartfelt sincerity coupled with a delightful sense of humor."
--Wildman Steve Bronson, Program Director and Morning Show Host, WQNR-FM 99.9 THE ROCK, Auburn AL

“With her signature sultry voice and collection of fresh songs this sophisticated “popster” has done it again!”
--Michael Fagien, JAZZIZ Magazine

“Wood has an earthy, deep voice capable of soaking subtext into just about every syllable she utters.”
--Larry Flick, Billboard Magazine

“What will strike you most about Wood’s music is her sultry, sexy voice, but if you get past that, you will find subtly crafted tunes of immense sophistication and insight.”
--John Schoenberg, Radio & Records Magazine

"This is the most incredibly brilliant CD anyone has ever recorded...PERIOD. …If only she would call more often!"
--Lauren's Mother, Dinner Table with Relatives

Lauren's newest album is an infectious blend of her sultry voice and innovative instrumentation. You can feel the dedication and time put into the production of this album in it's perfected melodies and mix of sound. It's a rarity to find an artist so entirely immersed in the perfection of her sound. Alternately upbeat and entrancingly sweet, this is an album that everyone needs to own. The digitized tracks don't even begin to give the lushness of sound on this album justice. If you want the full experience, get the physical CD, so that you can hear this music the way it was meant to be heard. She may be best known for her song "Fallen" from the Pretty Woman soundtrack, but with Love, Death, & Customer Service Lauren has proven that her experience and talent put her in a category all her own. Again, a must listen!

I'll be listening to this CD daily for a long time to come
If you love and appreciate intelligent pop music, you need to hear this CD. Being a fan of Lauren Wood's music since I first heard her back in the '70s, I've been slavering for a new release from her for a long time. If you're a fan, you know you can always trust her to write/play/sing music that speaks to you heart-to-heart. If you're not a fan yet, you will be, with any exposure to her music. She is a songwriter/performer on a par with the best known, female OR male singer/composers. This new CD works for me on many levels. I love her sense of melody, and it only gets better with each CD she releases. The cherry on top of this pop music sundae is the bonus of deeply personal lyrics that reveal what life is like for a woman who cares and feels, and even better, how she is affected by those things we all experience, like those we love, who just don't 'get' us (Love), the passing of our dearly loved ones (Death), and yes, even telemarketers (Customer Service)! Her sense of humor, and appreciation for the absurdities of life in general always shine thru, like a wink after a good scolding. I'll be listening to this CD daily for a long time to come, along with every bit of music I've been able to track down by this mostly unsung hero of mine.

Westcoasters wet dream come true.
Chunky is back without compromise, doing one of the best westcoast records in years. Back to her earlier sound when colaborating with Robbie Dupree and Michael Mcdonald this one is even better than her classics, doing it on her own terms.
Love it!!!

Intelligent ...Sensitive ...Meticulous ...Fresh ...Beautiful
I’ve been a fan of Lauren Wood’s for years. There’s no
singer/songwriter I can think of who affects me in deeper
way. Once again, in Love, Death & Customer Service, the
sound of her voice goes straight to my heart. I’m
impressed with her intelligent lyrics, sensitive
performance…meticulous production… and fresh
arrangements where I can always count an interesting left
turn…. and oh… those classic, beautiful melodies…

A Showcase of Brilliance!
You know Ms. Wood… yes you do. You know her HUGE hit “Fallen,” the stunning love song from the PRETTY WOMAN motion picture soundtrack. That’s the one that sold over 17 million copies! You also know her from her Top 3 hit duet with Michael McDonald, “Please Don’t Leave.” Lauren is a busy woman and has written Top 20 hits for her music industry compadres such as Gladys Knight and Phillip Bailey, as well as songs for a diverse group of stars including Cher, Dusty Springfield, Johnny Mathis, Sammy Hagar and Billy Preston. In addition, the active artist is heard on the theme of the hit TV series JUST SHOOT ME, as well as many national commercials and animated films. She’s the consummate artist, this Lauren Wood. She’s brilliant. And her new release, LOVE, DEATH & CUSTOMER SERVICE showcases all of this brilliance in one package… fantastic writing skills, a dazzling, distinctive voice, thoughtfully executed production and an overwhelming sense of fashion. Smooth Jazz has always embraced smooth vocals; Lauren Wood offers up a wonderful tune for Smooth Jazz radio, “Contradictions.” It’s sophisticated, contemporary and jazzy… A song that speaks to the heart and the soul, not unlike “Fallen.” Other tracks that speak to me include the saucy “You Gotta Love Those Guys,” the emotionally splaying “I Don’t Believe In Love” the absolutely irresistible “Come And Live With Me,” and the finely crafted pop tune, “Til You Let Your Heart Win.” LOVE, DEATH & CUSTOMER SERVICE is one for the people from a songwriter’s songwriter! ~SANDY SHORE
