ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Meet Memphis' best kept secret! After years of entertaining for friends and family Waddy Mitchell was encouraged to go into the studio and record her music for the rest of the world to enjoy. Her interpretation of the old New Orleans and Beale St. sounds will take you back to the late night sessions in the old clubs of yesteryear. Her unique, one of a kind voice, is certain to stand out in the music world. Her love for what she would like to call " anachronistic blues " will surely become a favorite of yours, too. So, sit back, put your feet up, grab a beer and be transported to a simpler time - or better yet, get up and DANCE!

"... the sound of velvet sandpaper,
shadowy fog and summer smoke."

"...Really enjoyed the Waddy CD - mighty fine collection of songs and loved the instrumentation. Her vocals kinda reminded me of Sophie Tucker. Twas really nice......."

"..."Waddy" Mitchell conjures the spirit of Bessie Smith and Ma Rainey....her timbre and phrasing are spectacular. Consider this either a great change of pace or what you've been waiting 80 years to hear."
BLUES REVUE MAGAZINE - Oct./Nov. 2006

Waddy made it to the top 10 in the Blues Foundation's Best Self-Produced CD contest for 2006. This was quite an accomplishment, since there were 46 entries from around the world submitted by their home Blues Societies. 12/2006

PUT A SOCK IN IT has made it to the finals in the International Songwriting Competition in Nashville. There were over 15,000 entries. Waddy's song is in the Blues category finals. Waddy won Honorable Mention in the contest!

....The mastery of the craftsmen who lay down these grooves is like a richly stained antique chair. Sitting in that chair is Waddy Mitchell, whose earthy-smooth yet sensual voice steers us through a sea of bourbon and smoke. Memphis Blues Society, Feb. 2007 Newsletter

This is the real deal, not for the faint of heart- blues the old way!
Waddie's rendition of the blues reminds me of Beale Street before the British Invasion. She sings blues from the heart, the kind that reaches down deep into your soul. From the gut-wrenching opening track, Empty Bed Blues, to the faintly frivolous Nyquil Blues, there is something here for every mood and every blues fan. Do some more, Waddie!

Waddy's voice instantly transports you to a smokey ol blues hall
Ol' Soul most reminds me of nights spent at the old Blues Alley in Memphis back in the early eighties. Waddy has a wonderfully distinct voice that is in perfect harmony with this great ol' music. Is you is or is you ain't gonna enjoy this cd. No doubt, you is.

Waddy's blues tunes get "stuck in your" head....but, only Waddy has the voice!
This CD is truly awesome and although I have been fortunate enough to hear Laurie in person over many years...this CD was such an enormously thrilling surprise-to hear her total art come together with that voice (like no other in this Century!)is truly addictive. I have a new favorite every day! "Lectric Chair" is the one for today, but, I love "Patience" where her writing style brings back the ol feelings. Get up and dance or get down and cry-either can be felt through this emotional journey. I played it for 350 miles on a road trip and never got tired of it. Fantastic!!

waddy- I am an middle age blues singer myself..you are wonderful
This CD is wonderful...Waddy's voice texture and color is fantastic. Her choice in music is wonderful...songs that she wrote are excellent. My better half is a DJ on the Saturday Night Blues Party 107.7 FM in Stockton, Mo. and has been playing Waddy's music for over a month now. He is particular about the music he plays so that tells you something right there. He is also featuring her & her music on his show Saturday July 15th. I myself am a blues singer and I LOVE this CD...thank you Waddy. DJ (Debbie)
