ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Jack Lavoie grew up in Quebec City. He first picked up a guitar as a teenager and began composing his own tunes. After years of performing informally for family and friends, Jack decided to follow his heart and turned to songwriting. Jack’s songs resonate with a gentle wisdom, a wisdom that comes from experience. His lyrics speak of life and love, while Jack’s vulnerability and sensitivity offer a keen perspective on the world around him. Jack describes the people around him, those close to him, and what they have shared. Jack’s life philosophy is simple. As he says, “Happiness is elusive, but I trust my heart to lead me down the right path. I work hard, play hard and dream big.”
Jack sings of taking chances, the importance of getting back up, and standing tall. After earning a demo clip on Musique Plus for the song No Warning, Jack took the plunge and released New Warning, his first album, in 2003. Jack and his band won the hearts of fans that sent them home with the people’s choice award at the festival Les Découvertes de la Chanson de Magog. Jack showcased at the Canadian Music Festival. Reason earned him recognition from the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 2004.
Jack launched La Pura Vida, a second album, in 2006. This time, two songs received acclaim from the Billboard World Song Contest, A Fine Summer’s Day and The Simple Things. The French version of A Fine Summer’s Day earned provincial airplay on over 30 FM stations. In 2007, Jack unplugged his rock sound for a more acoustic, folk feel. In addition to singing, he plays acoustic and rhythm guitar with two musicians in a tight-knit band. Remi Lortie plays accoustic and electric guitars, while Dan Cooper brings bass, guitar, and ukulele to the mix.
These days, Jack’s journey to fulltime singer-songwriter has him sharing composing secrets with workshop-goers at Morrin Centre and musical talents with other lyricists, such as Denise Girard of Montréal.
