The Lawarre Family

Produced by Nashville Bluegrass Band's Alan O'Bryant, this is a top shelf traditional album featuring Monroe tunes, some memorable classics, and a touch of old gospel. Bill, Josh and Summer LaWarre vocals are sweet and the harmony is rock-solid.

Album Notes
When Bill LaWarre asked his friend, dobro great Gene Bush, to organize a series of recording sessions for him, he wanted nothing more than a sentimental record of the music he’d made with his kids throughout their lifetimes. What he ended up with is a near-masterpiece of an album featuring the gorgeous voices of his son Josh and daughter Summer in a delightful romp down Bluegrass Lane. Music had been at the center of the happiest of times for the LaWarre family; this CD represents the boundless expression of that joy.

Musicians on the project are Bill LaWarre, harmony vocals and mandolin, Josh LaWarre on lead vocals and guitar, Summer Skrzelowski LaWarre on harmony vocals, Gene Bush on dobro, Buddy Griffin on fiddle, Eddie Cunningham on guitar, and Wayne Cliburn on banjo. The album includes two spot-on arrangements of Monroe instrumentals showcasing Bill’s Lloyd Loar -- plus a classic Carter Family tune, a Jimmy Martin favorite, contemporary bluegrass songs penned by Steve Earle and Tim O’Brien, great gospel goodies, and Josh’s first-class cover of “He Stopped Loving Her Today.” The CD was co-produced by Alan O’Bryant of the Nashville Bluegrass Band and Bill LaWarre, at OBanyon’s Terrace Studio located in Pegram, Tennessee, just outside Nashville, in the summer of 2008.

They’ll probably never be famous. But the LaWarre Family isn’t much interested in that kind of future. Their focus is on making good music and gettin’ it right. So don’t be surprised if you find yourself putting the LaWarre Family album on again and again to recapture the mood.

Satisfying CD
Those who love authentic traditional bluegrass will be pleasantly surprised when they come across this album. It's refreshing to hear uncompromising, simple and competent arrangements of some of my favorite standards up against a contemporary delight like Steve Earle's I'm Still In Love With You. The LaWarre Family has obviously been at this a long time.
