Album Notes
Nova is an intriguing album where each track takes the listener on an instrumental adventure to a space-like, ambient world.  A masterfully crafted kaleidoscope of sound, constantly changing, rhythmic, underpinned with an insistent energetic beat, sometimes subtle, always moving toward a distant goal.  Fans of Mike Oldfield, Tangerine Dream and classic Moby will love the soaring choruses and attention grabbing synth parts, featuring elements of chill-out, electronica, ambient and new age.  Nova’s electro heartbeat is the perfect backdrop to accompany pieces of contemporary art, a suspenseful film scene, or for relaxation and meditation, and could easily become the driving force behind beautiful dance choreography.  Nova is an enjoyable album, to be revisited again and again.

Writings by Serge Kozlovsky
This world is woven by much love
And permeated with rays of light

This album is a musical adventure. It starts with energetic beats on “Vital Warnings” and plunges the listener into the very special atmosphere where one can directly talk to the composer and your speech will be the silent language of love.

Gradually, the music becomes more calm and the second composition “Gently Crushing Eternity” which is filled with strong electronic patterns expands the horizon and shows endless space before your eyes.

The third composition “Half Time Suspense” continues the exciting musical journey and it sounds as a reminder of classical Tangerine Dream tunes. And then “Planetarium Hawk”, full of aerial voices and new age melodiousness, is reminiscent of Enya’s works.

In general, the music of Lawrence Lougheed is very diverse and, at the same time, it can be listened to in one breath because in every note the composer speaks to you and it comes from the bottom of the artist’s heart.

The music of “Nova” is filled with the real emotional experiences of the artist. And it has strength to purify the listener’s heart and easily release his hidden emotions. Compositions of this project undoubtedly have a healing effect and can be suggested in anti-stress therapy.

The music of Lawrence Lougheed in my opinion has one more important feature. It is very exquisite and refined. You can feel the artist’s respect to each person who is listening to his music.

Time runs very quickly when you listen to the wonderful compositions of “Nova” because the music of Lawrence Lougheed arouses the imagination.

And I’d like to say about one more significant peculiarity of the artist’s creative work. It awakes positive emotions and brings you a hope for the better days.

The album “Nova” will be a wonderful gift for very wide range of listeners. Listen to it and realize that a better world begins here and now and you can see it, you can start to create it from the very present moment.

From MainlyPiano
"Nova" is the third electronic album from Canadian pianist/ keyboardist/ composer Lawrence Lougheed, following "Time Shadows" (2002) and "Elysium Solace" (2009). The music on "Nova" ranges from smooth and ambient to upbeat and rhythmic. A variety of moods are expressed with an eclectic mix of electronic instrumentation that provides a colorful assortment of musical sounds. A classically-trained musician, Lougheed is self-taught in contemporary improvisation and is a retired high school music teacher who headed up the music department at his school. He is also the Music Director for his church, bringing a wealth of music and life experience as well as a variety of influences to his work! All ten tracks on Nova are original compositions and improvisations

"Nova" begins with “Vital Warnings,” a darkly atmospheric piece with a driving beat and an infectious rhythm. Wordless vocals and soaring strings contrast with the more percussive bass - a fascinating opener! The haunting “Gently Crushing Eternity” is more ambient and tragic. The choral voices are mournful and mysterious as they cruise through vast open space. “Half Time Suspense” is also very ambient, but is much more peaceful and relaxed. As you might expect from the title, “Planetarium Hawk” is space music with a strong beat - kind of like floating through space with a sense of urgency (in sections)! “Space Strings” also falls under the category of space music with synth strings expressing the feeling of floating at a speed that is quite slow and relaxed. There are “flashes” of other electronic instrumentation that suggest light (to me) as we glide through space feeling very comfortable and safe. “When I Get To Heaven” is brightly optimistic with light electronic “bells” played at a relatively higher pitch. When the rhythm/bass kicks in, the piece becomes nearly euphoric - strutting through the heavens with a big smile! Later in the track, a peaceful calm settles into the music. Near the end, a strong beat returns. Obviously a study in contrasts and sonic textures, I really like this one! My favorite track, “Hope Feels,” is also very strongly optimistic with a fascinating mix of rhythms that nearly dance out of the music player! If you can sit still while listening to this one, you’d better check your pulse! I love it - almost six minutes of pure musical joy! “Solar Atmos” closes the album with another excellent example of “space music” with a beat. A variety of percussive rhythms weave in and out of the ambient music, presenting intriguing and colorful contrasts.

If you enjoy electronic instrumentation, strong rhythms and an original approach to combining the two, be sure to give "Nova" a listen!
