Album Notes
Leeds By Example

Leeds By example is a project bringing together the best up n coming Leeds artists to set the scene for the future of U.K Hip Hop.

Numerous artists have joined forces under LBE which aims to promote the Leeds Hip Hop scene through live performances, album releases, recordings and music videos.

Leeds By Example – The Album

Our first compilation album features a selection of Leeds’ finest undiscovered talents.

Breaking The Illusion (B.T.I) is probably the best known of the artists on the scene today. B.T.I’s first single was released as long ago as the early 90’s and he has been instrumental on the development of the Leeds Hip Hop scene ever since. B.T.I offers two tunes from his forthcoming Album ‘The Story So Far’, which has already had much critical acclaim for his brash lyrics and fresh approach to mainstream hip hop.

Junkyard Tactics, lead by MONKEE (founder of the Invizible Circle) have already proved the front runners in the first to firmly establish themselves in the U.K Hip Hop market. After much anticipation, their first single, ‘Takin Ova’ has just been released and the Invizible Soul remix of their second offering on LBE is a must have!

Probably one of the best undiscovered young talents in Hip Hop is Eliphino. Eliphino, (the beat master behind Nine Lives Clique) gives LBE two offerings from his first solo album ‘Out of Phase’. Eliphino keeps it purely Old Skool, with some of the best chilled beats we’ve ever heard. These tunes are a must have and the album is truly awesome.

Haiku is another artist from Nine Lives Clique, who as well as featuring on ‘Out of Phase’ is currently mastering his own album ‘talk of the town’. His two tracks on LBE are literally the first straight from the studio. This is a seriously talented MC and the best thing is it’s only a taster of what’s to come.

Peacewise & Homestyle, the remixing masters! Although not originally from Leeds this Irish and southern duo moved to the city to refine their mixing talents with Leeds’ finest artists. With much influence from a cross section of genres, including Rock and Jazz, P & H always bring a truly original approach to their Hip Hop remixes. Their two LBE tracks see remixes of Junkyard Tactics’ first single ‘Takin Ova’ and B.T.I’s yet to be released ‘Stuck’.

Malaki is a superbly talented MC and freestyler. Born in Leeds, he spent the majority of his early teen years in the U.S, only to later return to his home city to launch his career. His quick and complex rapping style has put many to shame and his alliance with Rough Records has enabled him to concentrate his development in the studio. His two LBE tracks see collaborations with both Orpheus and Wisdom Tooth (Dr. Knox) of Rough Records.

Born and bred in Leeds, these two up n coming producers founded Rough Records in early 2005. Collaborating with numerous local MCs, they are set to release their first album later this year. Their first offering ‘Leeds Man’ was written exclusively for the LBE album and has already been chosen for use as the soundtrack to a forthcoming Sky Documentary.
