Album Notes
Leo Blanco is a Venezuelan pianist and composer. He was born in Merida, rich in culture and artistic currents, which influenced his musical upbringing. Venezuelan folklore, itself a mixture of African and Spanish musical traditions, as well as other musical languages, such as Jazz, Classical and pop, all found their way into Blanco's music. At the age of ten, he began his studies of classical piano and violin at the Conservatorio de Musica de la Universidad de Los Andes in Venezuela. At age eleven he became a member of the Mérida Youth Orchestra. At age 15 he was actively involved with musical presentations as both bass player and drummer for different bands where he experimented with Brazilian music and Spanish Rock. Later, Blanco attended Berklee College of Music, where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in music, with a concentration in composition and improvisation, and was exposed to new musical currents. He came in contact with Middle Eastern melodies, rhythmic patterns, and instrumentation, which he integrated into his already eclectic compositions.

Today Blanco composes and produces "Jazz and World Music" while he performs as a pianist for the internationally renowned salsa singer "India" and participates in many other musical projects, adding his creativity and talents to other genres such as folk, salsa, classical, Brazilian and others. In the international arena Blanco has made his presence known in a series of Latin and Jazz Festivals, such as Newport Jazz Festival (USA), Monterey Jazz Festival (USA), North Sea Jazz Festival (Holland), Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland), Kobe Jazz Festival(Japan), Festival e Musica (Brazil) Festival Latino Americano (Italy), Festival Latino (Italy), festival Tentarera (Germany), Music Festival de Paleo (Switzerland), Ohrid Music Festival (Macedonia). He has played with highly acclaimed artists such as Dave Liebman, Jane Bunnett, Richie Flores, Luciana Souza, Bob Moses, Dave Samuels, Jamey Haddad, George Garzone, Giovani Hidalgo, Jane Bonnet, John Benitez, Little Jhony Rivero, Mario Rivera and Ralph Irrizary. He was invited to perform and record a T.V Broadcast by the Cultural Ministery of Montenegro, Yugoslavia. He has played as guest artist with the Symphonic Orchestra of Funda Ayacucho, Symphonic Orchestra of Merida and the Symphonic Orchestra of Lara, all three from Venezuela. He has performed as a special guest with the Oli Bott's Big Band Jazz Orchestra in Berlin, Germany.

Leo Blanco is incredibly gifted, and inspiring. His music exudes the passionate Latin and Jazz influences he has lived, and the difficult multi-rhythmic patterns are artfully composed & performed by both Blanco and his top-notch musicians. Stay tuned as Blanco is about to release a new CD this Fall 2008. This guy is one to watch! Can you say Latin Grammy?? BUY IT!!
