ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Los Angeles is home to world class musicians and many of them are on this album. Les is a well known composer/arranger and has covered almost every medium of music, from film scores to live orchestral pieces to a variety of CDs. His music is designed to be unexpected and wide in scope, with a dash of humor. Where big bands are concerned, he feels it futile to simply add more traditional big band stereotyped arrangements when there already are many of those in existence already.
The band plays at Typhoon often. Typhoon is both a great showcase for large ensembles as well as a wonderful Pan-Asian restaurant. This is the band's 1st live album and it creates a lot of electricity. The range of music is quite wide: from Barnburner to Rocky & Bullwinkle. It seems that boredom is the enemy of the Les Hooper Band. There are 6 more big band albums before this one and this one is quite unique in its material. Listen to Guy Noir's Brother in which Bruce Otto presents the funny dialogue. A few recognizable tracks would be Freddie Freeloader, Pick Up the Pieces and Summertime
not to mention the themes from Rocky the Flying Squirrel.
The band has a stirling personel: Trumpets are Rick Baptist, Ron King, Rob Schaer and Dave Pittel. The Saxes are Jeff Driskill, Mark Hollingsworth, Kevin Garren, Mark Visher and John Mitchel. Trombones are Bruce Otto, Jacques oyemant, Dave Ryan and Mike Millar. Piano is Les Hooper, Bass is Kenny Wild, guitar is Nick Brown and drummer is Sinclair Lott.
