ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Tom Hazuka and Les Julian have written a song called “Grace’s Owl.” It’s an homage to Grace McDonnell and the other Newtown shooting victims. The song was inspired by Grace’s beautiful drawing of an owl, and by her parents’ gift of it to President Obama when he went to Newtown to show support in the tragedy’s aftermath.

The people who worked creating and recording “Grace’s Owl” donated their time and expertise. Heartfelt thanks go to Randy Plude (keyboards), Mekenzie Joseph (background vocals), Jenna Grasso (background vocals), Samantha Dorsi (background vocals), Kay Pere (background vocals, vocal coaching) and Bill Pere (recording engineer, vocal coaching) for their contributions to this project. Les Julian sings lead vocals and plays guitar, bass and mandolin.

Just as President Obama must surely be reminded of the tragedy and its issues when he looks at Grace’s drawing, we offer our song in the spirit of remembrance. “Grace’s Owl” is available free of charge from CD Baby. Please share the song with everyone you think might want to hear it.

Please also consider supporting any group working to ensure that no child leaves this world too soon.

The owl that Grace drew is yellow and blue with orange eyes wide and wise
He’s in his nest, there’s a heart on his chest that Grace made sure not to disguise
If Grace were still here the owl would appear on her parents’ fridge with his buddies
But since Grace flew away the owl perches today, in the president’s White House study

“Who? Who?” hoots the owl. “Who’ll remember little Grace’s name?”
“Who? Who?” cries the owl. “Who’ll help America change?”
“Who? Who?” pleads the owl. “Who’ll make sure Grace didn’t die in vain?”

In Newtown the world lost a wonderful girl because a troubled boy didn’t belong
Wish that I knew just what to do in the face of something so wrong
Can’t make amends to Grace and her friends but I refuse to throw in the towel
Bet the President cried just like you and I while smiling at Grace’s Owl

“Who? Who?” hoots the owl. “Who’ll remember little Grace’s name?”
“Who? Who?” cries the owl. “Who’ll help America change?”
“Who? Who?” pleads the owl. “Who’ll make sure Grace didn’t die in vain?”

The President’s wall is graced by her owl, but she graces the lives of us all
Grace and too many others are gone yet her owl lives on and calls

“Who? Who?” hoots the owl. “Who’ll remember little Grace’s name?”
“Who? Who?” cries the owl. “Who’ll help America change?”
“Who? Who?” pleads the owl. “Who’ll make sure Grace did not die in vain?”

I’m sure the President cried just like you and I, while smiling at Grace’s Owl

Who, who?
Who, who?
