Album Notes
Crawfish Caravan – Les Kerr’s New CD!
From Slippin’ into Slidell to the House of the Rising Sun, Les Kerr’s Crawfish Caravan CD embraces the spirit of his Hillbilly Blues Caribbean Rock & Roll. The fifteen-song collection takes listeners to New Orleans, the Mississippi Coast and Mobile. Of the fifteen tunes, nine were written or co-written by Les, while the rest are dear to his heart.
Mardi Gras Song captures the merriment that happens on Fat Tuesday while Hillbilly Blues Caribbean Rock & Roll illustrates Les’ music with a description of the styles he has combined to create his unique sound. From blues to bluegrass, it’s all stirred up like a good gumbo.
Les has a lot of fun with Justine, reminiscent of what might be heard in a Mississippi road house. The track features a rollicking saxophone section with Bryan Cumming (who wrote the song) and Pattie Cossentino, as well as keyboard work by Mark Jordan. Sparse instrumentation on Running Buddies allows the words to shine while Danny McCann’s haunting Dobro underscores this slice-of-life love story.
Ink by the Barrel reviews life in the news business as it once was. Les is joined by reporters with whom he once covered the news dubbed the “Mobile Mass Media Choir” for this project.
One of the biggest hits among Les’ fans, The Camellia Grill gets a new visit with fine accordion playing by Jeff Lisenby. Written after Les’ first late-night visit to a legendary New Orleans café, this song inspires visions of colorful waiters and strong coffee.
Buy Your Way Out of the Blues; Magnolia Springs; I Want this Afternoon to Last; I Miss America; John Hartford’s Natchez Whistle; Dick Feller’s Orleans Parish Prison; Leadbelly’s Cotton Fields and a gutsy, New Orleans-influenced version of the classic House of the Rising Sun, with Randy Leago’s accordion playing, round out the CD.
The musicians on the CD are well-respected and have played with such artists as Van Morrison, Bonnie Raitt, Kathy Mattea, Boots Randolph, Brenda Lee, Sha Na Na, and others.
Join the Crawfish Caravan and enjoy the trip!
