Album Notes
Lishman is a musician of profound vocal strength and purity, lavished over ethereal 12-string accompaniment. Her compositions tap into the cosmic stream, painting a musical consciousness that soothes and lingers. The original debut release of Levity was a cassette only issue many years ago that sold out quickly (yeah – the olden days). The frequent requests for CDs issue followed Lishman through regional performances. Obliging fans, she provides the original content from Levity, re-mastered, along with three new original songs, one of which (Dawn’s Early Mist) won an honorable mention in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. This work proves, as does any performance of hers, that her voice dances effortlessly from low smoky blues howling on up the scales to crystal clear high notes of incredible clarity.

With frequent and obvious comparisons to Joni Mitchell, Annie Lennox and Chrissie Hynde, Lishman (humble and grateful for the nod to her heroes and teachers) offers all that and more – at times fierce at others hauntingly fragile, her songs are intriguing and powerful. Her impeccable attention to detail makes the listening easy, but mesmerizing.

She’s joined on Levity by a willing tribe of Texas talent including the loved, and late Champ Hood, whose legendary fiddle graces two tracks. He and Lishman performed on stage together during “Sing for your Supper” night at Threadgill’s early in Levity’s conception. Because of his generous, supportive, and cooperative spirit to these first performances she is dedicating a portion of all sales from the project to Austin’s SIMS Foundation in Champ’s memory.

Other musicians adding magic to Levity’s inarguable appeal include Scott Wade (of recent Dirty Car Art fame); Arley Blankenship (Wimberley Volunteer Fireants); the late Keith Carper (Hal Ketchum, Branford Marsalis bands); W.C. Lawson, Ike Eichenberg, Craig Schroer, Linda Sriro, Ace and Kirk Cameron, Bill Giebitz, and Lishman’s partner in life, George Christopher.

Hear for yourself why this Lubbock native, Hill Country artist, and student of the present moment has sung her way into the hearts of so many… and she’s just getting the fire started.
