Keep Left at the Fork

by Leslie Hudson

These 13 songs mark 13 stops along a story-singer's journey into Otherplace, where Tori and Loreena swap set lists at the crossroads, pianos grow in the woods, and songs are sung about life, touring, and the Faeries for as long as the whiskey lasts.

Album Notes
Keep Left at the Fork is Leslie Hudson's 9th solo album, comprised of 13 songs that follow her journey into the Faerie realm. Each song holds the place of a single step of a path from start to finish, inspired by the work of Brian & Wendy Froud in "The Heart of Faerie Oracle."

Written from the perspective of a pagan, intersectional feminist and international touring musician, Keep Left at the Fork tells the story of a vital and present woman, engaged in her life, testing it, enlightening it, transforming it, who's not so much writing about Faerie as she is walking into it. This is the work; this album is her chronicle.

She's writing about the blessings to be found in the midst of chaos, the joy of feeling free to live a chosen life, the memory of trauma and the consequence of standing up for personal truth, the challenge of living with dysmorphic inner voices, the fear of opening up to someone else, the baggage of past relationships, the moment of silence where clarity begins, the search for self and validation, the lure of glamorous association, the spark of creation in the blackness, the weight of ideas so massive they will change the world, the lessons passed from mother to daughter, and the mystery of metamorphosis.

The Blessing. The Leaving. The Remembrance.
The Challenge. The Joy of the Future. The Shadow of the Past.
The Song. The Question.
The Temptation. The Hope.
The Dreaming. The Gift. The Returning.

This is a Journey into Faerie of the sort you may not recognize because there are no signs of wings and pixie dust, or the sort you might expect. It's a second sight rooted in living culture, with rules to be broken and debts to be paid, cautions to be heeded and truths to be gifted hiding in plain sight.

"Y'all, the new Leslie Hudson record, Keep Left at the Fork, is an amazing, piano-driven journey through personal intimacy and the inter-generational grief and anger of women. I can't wait for you to hear it when it hits full release" --Madison "Metricula" Roberts

"This record and these songs were born of travel and purpose. Once in your heart and ears, I believe they must also be forever part of your travel playlists and soundtrack. Make room for them to guide you. Leslie Hudson's voice, style, and arrangement are a fine map and a true one, shared with all who are willing to go" --S. J. Tucker

"I adore...Metamorphosis, but Motherblood? That one hit me right in the feels and left me weeping. Just beautiful" --Jodi Krangle

"..new lyrics keep jumping out at me each time I hear a song again, and in musical richness, variation and texture this is by far [Leslie's] best album" --Janet Julian

"Just started to listen to the new album and it's GORGEOUS. Perfect Storm went right to my core. Only four songs in and I'm in love with it" --Meghan Heisler

"I've been listening to Keep Left at the Fork since I downloaded it last night!" --Kat Sharp

"...leaves me awed and speechless -- and I write for a living" --John LeDuc Jr

Leslie Hudson answers the bardic call by singing to light the paths women walk through life and myth and media. She's a stirring storyteller, songwriter and performer all in one with songs that cut to the heart in a tapestry of styles, bringing women who've lived, women who haunt our mythic memory, and women who inhabit our current consciousness to the stage.

Choosing to play venues and events that support women's voices and the strength of diversity, Leslie and her keyboard tour across Canada, the US and Europe, performing at conventions, pagan shops, and house concerts for indie-friendly, story-hungry audiences. Her albums range from full band rock to evocative instrumental to melodic folk tinged with jazz and blues, on themes as diverse as folklore & myth, redheaded comic book characters, Star Trek, and life as a touring indie musician.

Modern heroines are often unrealistic caricatures, but Leslie's stories evoke both marrow and mask. Performed with equal parts passion, vulnerability and ferocity, her songs are character studies of archetype & divinity, the psyche and the female condition.

"[Leslie Hudson] seeks to get under the skin of [her] characters, probe their fictitious souls and, through the raw power of her music, to make them flesh-and-blood, to honor them with real human angst. And the results are nothing short of spectacular" -- Daniel Jun Kim, Pop Mythology

"There is something supernatural about Leslie that grips you and makes you pay attention" --Matthew Cimone, Chasing Atlantis

"Leslie Hudson is the Tori Amos of geek music" --Dr. Jessica Hebert, The PDX Broadsides

"Leslie Hudson is a force of nature" --Deborah Baudoin, The Harmony Heifers
