Album Notes
I have always been musical. As a child, I was Royal Conservatory trained in piano and music theory, played piano, sax and flute as a teen, and have been singing backup or lead vocals since she was 17. You could say that music is part of my DNA - except I was adopted. Growing up, my parents always encouraged my musical pursuits, but it wasn’t until I met her birth mother several years ago and just recently my birth father, that I learned about my musical genes. It may sound like the oldest rock and roll music cliché, but my birth mother was a singer in a rock band and my father was the guitar player. And now, I am not only a big sister to my younger brother but to five more siblings! 'I am the bough of a unique family tree, with many roots entwined' is the lyric from the title track 'Sister Seven', which describes suddenly becoming ‘one of seven’ siblings in the world. In fact, many of the songs on the album tell a story – from being bullied, to managing the inner critic, to trying something new, even a Led Zeppelin influenced tune about the furtive mind of a stalker. Although this is a rock album, many of the songs have other influences - country, funk, even opera and hip hop! The songs may be varied, but they’re all pulled together by rich vocals, strong melodies, distinctive instrumentation and great production.
