ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Chasing Lights is the second album of Les Mecs Du Nord. After the debut, Carbonnade Flamande, that touched upon gipsy swing, French chanson and European folk music, the new album embraces a more experimental pop sound while still cherishing the acoustic roots. This artistic contradiction was born from the particular instrumentation and versatility of the musicians. Starting from a collective creation, the eclectic compositions tap from such diverse styles as pop, jazz, classical music, folk, chanson, and modern music. And yet, the form as well as the story sound surprisingly recognizable and accessible. In their search for the musical translation of their identity, Les Mecs Du Nord do not tap from elitist sources, but turn to universal themes. The tormented cynic, the lonely romantic, the idealist pass by as almost stereotypical personages in a musical parade of this century.
